New Delhi, Dec 15: The war of words on the role of Election
Commission and Electronic Voting Machines and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit
Trail (VVPAT) seemed to have only intensified with several leaders including
Union Ministers taking to the Twitter on the same.
"Congress criticising Election Commission?
In 2009 I was defeated by 1,314 votes with 104 per cent voting but Congress
didn't allow EC to repoll! BJP never interferes with Constitutional
bodies," Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju tweeted. In 2009 Lok Sabha polls, Mr Rijiju had lost the Arunachal West parliamentary seat to Takam Sanjoy of Congress.
While the Congress nominee had polled 140443 votes, Kiren Rijiju as BJP candidate had managed 139129 votes.
Mr Rijiju had won the seat in 2004 by humbling Kamen Ringu of the Congress party.
In his missive micro blogging site, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy wrote: "Congress hope is on VVPT counting. When I argued for it in Supreme Court, Cong opposed".
Congress leaders and party workers including party MPs on Thursday held a dharna in front of the Election Commission alleging that the poll panel has turned a blind eye to the violation of the model code of conduct by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congress spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala has gone to the extent of stating that "Election Commission has become a captive puppet of Prime Minister" and that the election body has been "prostrating" before Mr Modi. UNI
