| Asks Deptt to optimally utilize services of talented engineers |
JAMMU,
DECEMBER 23: Minister for
Public Works, Naeem Akhtar stressed upon the engineers of the department to
start in-house designing of the bridges to save time and completing the
projects within the fixed timelines.
The
Minister was speaking during a meeting with the offices of the department here
in Jammu.
Commissioner
Secretary Public Works (R&B) Sanjeev Verma, Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B)
Jammu Sudheer Shah, Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B) Kashmir Sheikh Hamid and
other engineers of the department were present in the meeting.
“The department should optimally utilize
the services of its talented engineers in the field of designing,” the
Minister said, adding, this will save time and decrease the dependency of the
department on other agencies for getting their projects designed.
Stressing
on best possible resource management in the department, the Minister directed
for establishment of Technical Cell for enhancing technical expertise and
making the process of designing hassle-free.
He asked the Chief Engineer to organize
workshops and refresher courses on regular basis for the talented engineers of
the department. These engineers should be provided training in Design,
Inspection and Quality Control (DIQC) Department in Jammu, besides sending them
to Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) for taking advanced guidance in
the field of building science and technology, he added.
The Minister directed the department to
focus on general issues related to road maintenance on daily basis and chalk
out a plan to engaging unemployed engineers through Self Help Groups for
day-to-day maintenance of roads and other related works.
He asked the department to make efforts
for establishment of mobile hot mix plants in the far-flung areas to speed up
the road construction works and providing vital road connectivity to the needy
people.
In the meeting, the recruitment rules
and staff position in various divisions of the department was also discussed.
The Minister directed for referring the vacancies to the suitable recruitment
agencies to fill them at the earliest.
