Rahul Gandhi is new Congress President

 

New Delhi, Dec 16: Rahul Gandhi, 47, is the new president of Congress party.
He was handed over the certificate of his election by senior Congress leader Mullappally Ramachandran, the chairman of the Congress Election Authority in the presence of outgoing party president Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh among others.
In his speech, Dr Manmohan Singh described the Saturday morning event in the party headquarter as "unique".
"Rahulji, We depend upon you for transformation of politics of fear to politics of hope," Dr Singh said.
In his remarks, Mr Ramachandran said, the election of Rahul Gandhi represents aspirations of lakhs of Congress leaders and party workers.
"You are taking over at a time when both India and party are facing great challenges," Mr Ramachandran said.
Among others who were present on the occasion included Priyanka Gandhi, Robert Vadra, former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and senior leaders Bhubaneswar Kalita, Madhusudhan Mistry and Motilal Vora. UNI
