Srinagar, Dec 5: All train runs have been suspended on Tuesday for security reasons in south Kashmir, where three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, including a self-styled Divisional Commander, were killed and another was captured alive in an injured condition in Kulgam.
However, trains will chug in north Kashmir as per schedule, a senior railway official.
He said all train runs from Badgam-Srinagar in central Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region through Pulwama, Anantnag and Qazigund in south Kashmir will remain suspended today for security reasons.
'We have received an advisory from the police to suspend the rail service in south Kashmir for security reasons,' he said, adding that however, train runs will continue in north Kashmir.
He said railway department is acting on the advice of police and civil authorities.
Hundreds of passengers, who had arrived at different railway station this morning had to return disappointed after they were informed that all trains in south Kashmir have been suspended today.
Train service has become very popular as it is being considered cheap, safe and fast against other mode of transport.
This is for the 46th time train service was suspended partially or fully in the Kashmir valley during 2017.
However, last year, the train service remained suspended for about six months due to summer unrest in the valley. UNI
