Chennai, Dec 1: Key candidates of the ruling AIADMK, Opposition DMK and ousted AIADMK leader T
T V Dhinakaran on Friday filed their nomination papers for the December 21
by-election to the R K Nagar Assembly seat.
The seat fell vacant following the death of former Chief
Minister J Jayalalithaa on December five last year. This bypoll would be the first real test for the unified
AIADMK post the merger of the two warring factions headed by Tamil Nadu
Chief
Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and after the Election Commission of India (ECI) recently allotted to them the hugely popular AIADMK's 'Two Leaves' symbol, the Party flag and the name. AIADMK heavyweight and former Minister E Madhusudhanan, accompanied by Senior Minister D Jayakumar filed his papers before the Returning officer, while Mr Maruthu Ganesh of DMK also filed his papers. Mr Dhinakaran, who is also the nephew of expelled and jailed leader V K Sasikala, carrying a new party flag (with black, white and red colours without the images of late leader Annadurai), filed his nomination papers as an Independent candidate.
