Kolkata, Dec 8: At the 'Ahare Bangla' food festival being held
at New Town Mela Ground, a new item is being served
by the State Fisheries Development Corporation (SFDC): sea
crabs.
Various dishes based on sea crabs are being sold
this year. For many years now, fishermen in Digha have been catching these sea crabs. SFDC has known the demand for these crabs for some time now – not just in the state and in other parts of the country like in New Delhi and Mumbai (including in five-star hotels), but also in other countries, from enquiries from Japan and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Now it is firming up plans to buy these crabs from fishermen in a systematic way and supply them to various places. For export, the countries being planned to be sent to are Japan, South Korea, China, Australia and the Gulf countries, and to Europe.
The food festival, whose third edition is being held this year, is open to everyone from December 8 to 11. Lunch items would be available from 12 PM to 3 PM, snacks from 3 PM to 6 PM and dinner items from 6 PM to 9 PM. UNI
