Oil producers who agreed last week to trim production to boost prices will meet in April to review the impact and sign a long-term pact, the UAE minister said Wednesday.

Dubai, Dec 12 (AFP) Oil producers who agreed last week to trim production to boost prices will meet in April to review the impact and sign a long-term pact, the UAE minister said Wednesday.

OPEC and some non-OPEC producers decided to cut output by 1.2 million barrels per day for six months from January after world prices shed a quarter of their value in just a few weeks.

Prices currently hover around 60 a barrel, down from more than 85 a barrel in early October in the face of fears of weaker demand and an increase in supplies.

"In April, we will have a meeting to review the decision," United Arab Emirates Energy Minister Suhail al-Mazrouei told reporters on the sidelines of a conference in Dubai.

Mazrouei said that national oil company ADNOC has already informed clients that it will cut production by 2.5 percent from January. The UAE, OPEC's fourth largest producer, has been pumping around 3.0 million bpd.

He said that the producers decided to meet in April instead of June "to allow us to take the required decision," before the six months are up.

The minister said the cuts will help restore balance to the world market in 2019.

"We expected there will be a slowdown in demand for oil and accordingly decided to cut production," Mazrouei said.

The producers will also sign a long-term agreement in April to formalise the cooperation between OPEC and non-OPEC parties to the cuts, the minister said.

He said the alliance with Russia and other non-cartel producers has made the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries stronger and more effective.

"OPEC is no longer the 30 million barrel (per day) group ... With OPEC, non-OPEC including Russia, we are now talking about 50 million barrels or half the world's production," Mazrouei said. (AFP) AMS

New Delhi, Jan 10: Pravasi Bandhu Welfare Trust (PBWT) has requested Indian Government to change the eligibility to obtain Aadhaar card to all Indian citizens irrespective of the residential status and permit NRIs also to take Aadhaar card.
In a letter to Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs, KV Shamsudheen, Chairman of UAE- based, Pravasi Bandhu Welfare Trust, said that NRIs were very happy to read the announcement in this regard. But two years have elapsed and nothing happened. “We all are eagerly waiting for the implementation to solve our plight,” said Mr Shamsudheen.
According to Mr Shamsudheen, two years back, while inviting the diaspora community to actively participate in India's growth story, Ms Swaraj had said that the government is considering giving Aadhaar cards to Non-Resident Indians and a decision on it will be taken soon.
Mr Shamsudheen said, “Recently the CEO of UIDIA published a circular in which he advised all Indian authorities not demand Aadhaar card from Non Resident Indians, because they are not eligible to take Aadhaar as per the current law.”
In spite of that all the authorities are demanding Aadhaar from NRIs to get gas, to get mobile SIM, to renew and to apply for driving license, to digitalize property document, to appear entrance examination, and many more, he said.
According to him, during the past two weeks many NRIs were on New Year vacation, they were struggling a lot to get all these services from the service providing departments. 'So we request you to make NRIs also eligible to take Adhaar, that is the only solution for the present difficulties.'
He said that other countries whIch have biometric identity cards, issue it to all its citizens, but only India is in the world issuing it to only residents. 'We request you, like all other countries, issue Aadhaar to all Indian citizens irrespective of their residential status.' UNI

Kolkata, Dec 8: At the 'Ahare Bangla' food festival being held at New Town Mela Ground, a new item is being served by the State Fisheries Development Corporation (SFDC): sea crabs.
Various dishes based on sea crabs are being sold this year.
For many years now, fishermen in Digha have been catching these sea crabs. SFDC has known the demand for these crabs for some time now – not just in the state and in other parts of the country like in New Delhi and Mumbai (including in five-star hotels), but also in other countries, from enquiries from Japan and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Now it is firming up plans to buy these crabs from fishermen in a systematic way and supply them to various places. For export, the countries being planned to be sent to are Japan, South Korea, China, Australia and the Gulf countries, and to Europe.
The food festival, whose third edition is being held this year, is open to everyone from December 8 to 11. Lunch items would be available from 12 PM to 3 PM, snacks from 3 PM to 6 PM and dinner items from 6 PM to 9 PM. UNI

Doha, Nov 30: Indian voice and Afghani music have given the Ajyal Youth Film Festival a rousing start in the Qatari capital.
The fifth edition of the influential youth film festival opened last night with the screening of the critically-acclaimed animated film ‘The Breadwinner’, executive-produced by Hollywood actor Angelina Jolie.
Indian-origin Canadian teenager Saara Chaudry lends voice to the lead character in the film, which features a song composed and performed by Afghan-origin musician Qais Essar.
‘The Breadwinner’, premiered at the Toronto film festival in September, tells the story of Parvana, an 11-year-old girl who disguises as a boy to work and feed her family after her father is taken away by the Taliban.
The film is adapted from a novel of the same title by Canadian author Deborah Ellis.
Both Chaudry and Essar were feted by the festival, which is screening over 100 films, more than half of them by women filmmakers.
‘The Breadwinner’ was screened to a packed opening night audience at the festival venue, the Katara cultural village in Doha.
“It was an incredible experience playing the role of the brave Parvana,” said Chaudry, 13, who read the book on which the film is based on when she was only nine.
The families of Chaudry’s parents, who live in Toronto, had moved abroad from India decades ago.
Afghan-origin musician Essar performed ‘The Crown Sleeps’, his song from ‘The Breadwinner’ at the opening night of the Ajyal festival.
“It is Indian classical music, in ‘Raag Charukeshi’,” said Essar, referring to the Carnatic music roots of his own composition.
At the Ajyal festival, Essar played the ‘Rabab’, a Sarod-like Afghani string instrument, accompanied by American musician Eric Zanger, enthralling festival delegates and cinema lovers.
The six-day festival also has films from at least one Indian director and another Indian filmmaker based in Qatar.
‘Aamer’, a short film by Mumbai-based Amira Bhargava, is about a hearing impaired boy, who sells flowers in the streets.
When his mother gifts him a hearing aid, unable to adjust to the unpleasant sounds, his world goes upside down.
‘Walls’, a 12-minute film by Doha-based Nibu Vasudevan, deals with a decaying world.
Part of the ‘Made in Qatar’ section of the festival, the film’s music is also composed by a Qatar-based Indian, Aby Salvin Thomas.
“Films made by from Qatari directors and expatriate filmmakers are today reaching a global audience,” said Ajyal festival director Fatma Al Remaihi.
The festival, which traditionally has a jury composed only of children and young adults from around the world, will also screen a documentary on the origin of circus in Nepal.
‘Even When I Fall’, directed by British filmmakers Sky Neal and Kate McLarnon, tells the story of Nepalese children sold to Indian circuses returning home to start their own circus group.
“The fifth edition of the festival marks a milestone in our journey in presenting a one-of-a-kind film event in the (Middle East) region that puts young people at the heart of its story,” said Al Remaihi, also the CEO of the Doha Film Institute.
Another highlight of the festival this year is an exhibition of the works of 18 filmmakers and 12 artists, based on the blockade of Qatar by its neighbours Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain, as well as Egypt, which began nearly six months ago. UNI

Abu Dhabi, Nov 25: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has condemned, in the strongest possible terms, the terrorist blast that targeted Al Rawdah Mosque in Bir Al Abed, North Sinai Governorate, on Friday.
Over two hundred worshippers were killed or injured in the attack. In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed its vehement condemnation and denunciation of this terrorist act, which contravenes human values and principles, as well as the teachings of the Islamic Sharia and other religions, the Gulf News reported. "This horrible crime exposes, beyond doubt, the ugly face of terrorism that does not respect the human soul and the sanctity of places of worship. It also exposes the false allegations of extremist groups, which dons the cloak of religion to justify their barbaric acts, which Islam is innocent from," the statement said. The statement reiterated the UAE's unequivocal stance against all forms of terrorism and called for the countries of the world to further co-ordinate and mobilise the international efforts to eradicate this dangerous scourge, which threatens international security and stability, as well as to eliminate the root causes of terrorism and dry up its sources of funding. "While strongly deploring this criminal act and rejecting all forms of terrorism and violence, the UAE expresses its firm solidarity with and support for Egypt, in its fight against this serious crime," the statement added.
"This cowardly crime will not undermine the will and determination of the Egyptian people to pursue their fight against terrorism, which has no homeland, religion or morals," the statement emphasised. The ministry expressed the condolences to the families of the martyrs and the government and people of Egypt while wishing a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack. UNI
