Potable
water supply projects worth Rs 18 cr sanctioned for Batala,

DECEMBER 20: Speaker
Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today launched works for improvement of
Water Supply Scheme (WSS) Rajeev Nagar, here today.
Under
the improvement works, 450 m pipelines will be laid at an estimated cost of Rs
2.84 lakh.
Speaking
on the occasion, the Speaker said that steps are underway to ensure basic
necessities of the people including water, power supply and proper roads are
fulfilled at the earliest. He informed that out of the total road span of 842
km in the Gandhi Nagar constituency, construction/upgradation works for about
600 km roads have been completed with special focus on quality of the works
undertaken.
He
also informed that two projects, each worth Rs 18 crore, have been sanctioned
by the central government for Batala and Bathindi areas to augment the water
supply in the area.
Kavinder
Gupta said that the demands of the people including improvement of drainage
systems, adequate water supply, construction of graveyard, sanitation,
construction of nallahs for flood water
drainage are being taken up on priority.
He
said that with the launching of works for improvement in WSS Rajeev Nagar, the
problem of water supply shortage will be resolved. Besides, the works for
graveyard are in pipeline and will be initiated in the coming days.
He
informed that JMC has been directed to take intensive cleaning drive to clean
drains, remove blockages in the area, besides maintaining adequate sanitation, regular lifting of garbage,
removal of solid waste from drains.
He
further said that a project for construction
of nallahs to augment the flood
water drainage network has been sanctioned and will be initiated at the
earliest, so that people of the area do not suffer due to seasonal flooding.
The
Speaker encouraged the public to actively participate in the development
process and monitor the works being undertaken.
