Srinagar, Dec 27: Train service resumed on Wednesday after
remaining suspended for security reasons in south Kashmir, where a top
commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) was killed in an encounter with security
forces on Tuesday.
However, train service from Srinagar-Badgam in central
Kashmir to Baramulla in north continued yesterday and all trains operated as
per schedule, a railway official.He said train service was suspended after an advisory was received from police.
However, a fresh advisory was received to resume the train service today, he said. Therefore, trains will chug on Badgam-Srinagar to Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
This was the 51st time train service has been suspended partially or fully in the Kashmir valley this year, causing a loss of more than Rs 1.50 crore to railways.
Passengers who boarded the train, which left for Banihal from Srinagar at 0720 hrs, at Nowgam station alleged that there is absolutely no heating arrangement in the train when the temperature is sub zero. Surprisingly, there was also reverse seating arrangements in all bogies, alleged the passengers. UNI
