Srinagar, Dec 15: Train service has been suspended on Friday for security reasons in the Kashmir
valley, where separatists had decided to hold a rally in Anantnag in south
Kashmir today.
We have suspended all train runs in the Kashmir valley for
security reasons following advisory from the police, a railway official.
He said no train will chug on Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir to Baramulla in north. Similarly no train will run on Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region. Hundreds of passengers, who had arrived at different railway stations, were disappointed after they were informed that all train runs have been cancelled today.
Train service has become very popular and its being considered very safe, fast and cheap against other mode of transport in Kashmir.
This is for the 47th time train service has been suspended partially or fully in the Kashmir valley during this year.
The railway authorities are acting on the advice of police, he said. Last year the train service remained suspended for about six summer months due to unrest.
Meanwhile, police said train service has been suspended. However, Srinagar-Jammu national highway was through and traffic will ply from here to winter capital and no vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction. UNI
