New Delhi, Dec 2: While congratulating the BJP for its win in the elections to the Uttar Pradesh local bodies, Congress leader P Chidambaram on Saturday questioned whether it could be called a sweep for the ruling party in the state.
'BJP is indeed the winner in UP and congratulations are in order, but is winning about 28 per cent of all contested posts a 'sweep'?,' former Finance Minister Chidambaram said in a tweet. He also wondered whether an increase in the GDP growth from 5.7 per cent to 6.3 per cent could be called a surge. 'Is a bump from 5.7 per cent to 6.3 per cent a 'surge', when the government promised double digit growth?,'he said. Referring to media reports in this regard, he said ,'After media reports on Q2 GDP and UP local bodies, Oxford and Webster should re-define the words 'surge' and 'sweep'.' UNI
