KULGAM,
JANUARY 06: Member Legislative Assembly from Kulgam, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami
today took a detailed review of progress registered under Swachh Bharat Mission
(SBM) in the constituency.
The
meeting was attended by the DDC Kulgam, Talat Parvez, Director Rural Sanitation
Kashmir, Nazir Ahmad, ACD, DPO, all BDOs and other concerned.
It
was said that as many as 53000 households were identified in the baseline
survey of 2012 for providing free toilets. Out of these, 23000 families have
been covered, so far, and remaining 30000 families would be covered by October
2018.
Taking
a detailed review of the implementation of SBM, Tarigami directed the RDD
authorities to come up with a concrete action plan within
ten days so that the deserving left out cases be
prioritized under this mission.
While
expressing his dismay over the slow progress of the Mission implementation in
the constituency, the MLA directed the RDD gear up and works with missionary
zeal to declare Kulgam as open defecation free (ODF) by October 2018.
Speaking
on the occasion, the DDC Kulgam said all available resources would be utilized
for effective implementation of SBM in the district. He assured the MLA
that a monthly based review regarding SBM would be taken to monitor the
performance of RDD.
The
meeting decided to declare Pombay and Quimoh blocks to be open defecation free
by January 22, besides,
MGNREGA funds shall be utilized for constructing toilets on war footing.
Meanwhile, Director Rural Sanitation said that the
department has enough funds to meet the demands of every district to be
declared open defecation free by October 2018.
