Pune, Jan 2: There is a curfew-like situation in all seven districts of Western Maharashtra after violence erupted near Bhima Koregaon between two communities on Monday evening during an event to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Bhima Koregaon battle.
In violence, one person was killed while several others injured and admitted to private hospitals at different places in the city.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday ordered a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge and another CID inquiry against the persons who found guilty in the crime.
The Chief Minister, who was in the city, announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the next kin of the victim who died in the violence. He also urged people not to spread rumours in society and maintain calm.
Mr Fadnavis also requested political leaders of both communities not to make any statement which will further create tense in Maharashtra. He assured the people to provide justice to all who were injured in the incident. UNI
