Srinagar, Jan 6: Four personnel of Jammu and Kashmir police were killed on Saturday in an
Improvised Explosive Device blast at Sopore in Baramulla district, about 55 km
from here, official sources said.
Official sources told that the IED was planted by
militants beneath a shop. Several shops were also damaged as the sound of the
blast reverberated in the entire town.
A general strike was observed on Saturday as on this day, 57 people were killed in 1993 in alleged security force firing.
Security forces and police personnel were deployed in the town to maintain law and order.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti tweeted that she was pained at the blast. 'Pained to hear that four policeman have been killed in an IED explosion in Sopore. My deepest condolences to their families.'
National Conference working president Omar Abdullah also tweeted, ''Very sad news from #Sopore. May the four brave J&K police personnel killed in the line of duty today rest in peace.' UNI
