New Delhi, Jan 8: The much awaited Padmavati is set to release in theatres worldwide on the eve
of Republic Day, setting off a clash with the Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Padman',
trade sources said on Monday.
The film, which had been given conditional
clearance from the Central Board for Film Certification last week, has got the
censor certificate and makers have decided to release it on January 25, the
sources said.
The Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starter, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali is thus set for a clash with Akshay Kumar’s Padman and Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary, which are also being released around the Republic Day.
The sources said the exhibitors have got letters from Viacom 18 for the film 's release.
A release on the eve of Republic Day will result into a long weekend which will help to recover the investment on the film, It has been made with a huge budget of more than Rs 200 crore.
'Padmavati', which has been in eye of controversy with the members of Rajput community saying that the film distorts history, was last week given a clearance from the CBFC subject to conditions like change of name to 'Padmavat' and some modifications in the song 'ghoomar '. UNI
