New Delhi, Jan 2: Bharatiya Janata Party MP Vinay P Sahasrabuddhe took charge as Chairman of Indian Council for Cultural Relations on Tuesday.
Dr Sahasrabuddhe is a Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra.
In a statement here, he said over the years, the ICCR has carved a place for itself in Indian External Affairs establishment. In the changed global scenario, thanks to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj , India was taken more seriously as an emerging global power, he stated, adding that as a consequence, the role of ICCR also has become more important.
In the years to come, ICCR while harnessing India's soft power, will focus on pursuit of the agenda of creating greater understanding about India and its civilisation, in the global community of academicians. Besides, it will aim to further consolidate the institutional strength of ICCR, through its more pronounced footprint all over the world in a scientific manner and lastly to ensure the wider concept of culture and civilisation encompassing a wide range of subjects from food to fabric, handicraft to folk-art and diversity of traditions to emerging varieties of tourism. UNI
