Agartala, Feb 15: Security was beefed up in Tripura in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's election rallies here and at Shantirbazar of South Tripura this afternoon. 
These rallies will be the conclusion to BJP’s two-week long high profile campaign for assembly poll scheduled on February 18.
The Prime Minister will fly to Agartala around 1330 hrs by Indian Air Force craft from Lilabari after inaugurating the newly constructed Dorjee Khandu State Convention Centre in Itanagar. After lunch he will address an election rally at Shantirbazar of South Tripura seeking vote for the BJP candidates of 14 assembly constituencies of South and Gomati districts.
In late afternoon, Modi is scheduled to address the central rally at Vivekananda stadium seeking vote for the BJP candidates for the coming elections before he leaves for Delhi in the evening directly from Agartala. BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav, party’s Tripura poll in-charge Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, party’s state in-charge Sunil Deodhar and state president Biplab Kumar Deb are scheduled to accompany Modi in both the rallies.
According to report, besides Prime Minister’s security personnel and state police more than 300 central paramilitary forces have been deployed on the streets between airport and Vivekananda stadium while about 17 temporary check gates have been installed around the city to restrict civilian movements.
The city traffic has been diverted in several roads for the day in view of the Prime Minister’s rally in the city.
The city is on high alert and intensive checking is being carried out on all establishments including hotels and vehicles. The intelligence officers, led by IG, intelligence, are monitoring the prescribed security measurements as per protocol.
Besides, Special Protection Group (SPG), National Security Guard (NSG), special commandos and state police also have camped at the rally venues in Agartala and Shantirbazar for last two days while bomb squad and dog squad were pressed into action.
The administration has made special arrangements to ensure hassle free movement in the city anticipating huge crowd in the rally of Agartala. Northeast Frontier Railway sources said that a few thousand people from Northern part of Tripura reached Agartala station in two trains last night while hardly any passenger could travel in the trains today except rally-hoppers.
The BJP supporters with party flags and colorful festoons thronged the city since morning to have a glimpse of Prime Minister Modi and almost all the private schools of Agartala declared holiday and the very low attendance was reported in the government schools.
The party has arranged drinking water for the participants while a few snacks 
parlours were allowed to open outside the stadium to cater to the demand of the people attending the rally. A few giant screens were put up outside the stadium and mikes were erected across major parts of Agartala and Shantirbazar. As many as four giant LCDs were installed to telecast the speech of Narendra Modi at various sides of the ground in Agartala. UNI
