Kolkata, Feb 16: The Carlson Rezidor Group is eyeing Siliguri for its next venture in West Bengal as part of its expansion plan to operate100 hotels across India, accorfing to Raj Rana, CEO of the South Asia region of the company.
"We are interested in Siliguri mainly because of its commercial importance and connectivity to the north-east," Rana said here yesterday during a programme to announce the rebranding of the Park Plaza Kolkata Ballygunge, developed by Kolkata based Mukti Group, to Radisson Kolkata Ballygunge.
About other locations in West Bengal, Rana said his company is also interested in Darjeeling, but it is difficult to enter hill city due to regulatory environmental requirements.
The international hospitality chain is keen on making its presence in second-tier cities apart from metros cashing in on Prime Minister's Udan scheme that aims to improve connectivity to these cities. For this, the company will depend on the 'airlift factor' to choose locations for its project, Rana said.
The group will also be starting operations in Chandigarh with two hotels and with one hotel in Gorakhpur, UP.
Carlson is going to open one hotel in Jammu this year and has already signed partnerships to operate seven hotels in Jammu & Kashmir in popular tourist destinations including Srinagar, Sonmarg and Gulmarg.
The group is currently operating 89 hotels in India and another 51 are under construction.
" At present we have operating10,000 rooms in India, and with our aim to add 11 more hotels this year we expect to add 1400 to 1500 more rooms," Mr Rana informed. UNI
