Aizawl, Oct 8: Members of the Bru community, currently lodged in six relief camps of Tripura, will be exercising their franchise in Mizoram when it goes to polls on November 28, a top state election department official said Monday.

The tenure of the 40-member Assembly expires on December 15.

"The Election Commission of India (ECI) has instructed officials in the state to make poll arrangements in Mizoram for displaced Bru families," Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) SB Shashank told reporters here.

The ECI, however, was yet to issue detailed guidelines on the process that needs be followed to move Bru voters to Mizoram for the polling exercise, he said.

"Of the 11,232 Bru voters in Tripura - 8,777 are from Mamit district, along Mizoram-Bangladesh-Tripura border, 1,732 from Kolasib district of the state, along Assam border, and 723 from southern Mizoram's Lunglei district," the CEO said.

During the 2013 assembly elections, Bru members were able to cast votes from their respective relief camps. The following year, too, displaced voters had exercised their franchise for parliamentary election from Tripura.

An election department official said on the condition of anonymity that making adequate arrangements for Bru voters to cast votes in their respective polling stations would be a "herculean task".

He suggested establishing designated polling stations at a border town inside the state for the displaced people.

"Setting up designated polling stations at a border town, like Kanhmun, where Bru voters can exercise their franchise, might be the best bet," he added.

The voters' list in six Tripura relief camps were updated recently along with rest of the state amid protests by members of civil societies, who demanded that the process be undertaken after the final repatriation process.

Thousands of Bru refugees from Mizoram fled to Tripura after ethnic violence of 1997. The clashes broke out after a forest official was killed by Bru National Liberation Front (BNLF) militants.

The Centre, in association with the governments of Mizoram and Tripura, had been trying to repatriate displaced Brus in phases.

The final repatriation process, however, fizzled out as only around 50 of 5,4007 families shifted to Mizoram between August and September.

Bru members have cited "unsatisfactory repatriation package" as reason for not returning to their home state. (PTI)

KARGIL, OCTOBER 05: The Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Vikas Kundal today directed the officers of Roads and Buildings (R&B) and Public Health Engineering (PHE) Departments to conduct survey of ShakarChiktan block and identify the new road projects and Water Supply Schemes (WSSs) and prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and submit the same to the concerned quarter for accord of necessary sanction.
He also asked the Irrigation Department to formulate an comprehensive plans for development, repairs and renovation of all irrigation Khuls included Kanji Nallah and furnish the same to the concerned quarter for arrangement of funds.
These instructions were given by the Deputy Commissioner to the concerned departments in a Public Darbar convened to hear and redress the public grievance at far-flung areas of ShakarChiktan block today.
The Darbar chaired by the Deputy Commissioner witnessed participation of people in large numbers. The Representatives of the 11 revenue villages of the ShakarChiktan area included Bodh Kharbo, Stakchay, Samrah, Chiktan, Shakar and Hagnis raised various developmental issues of their respective areas. These included early release of land compensation acquired for construction of road projects, issuance of cattle feed, inadequate staff in health and education departments, up gradation of schools and Primary Health Centres, measures for tackling to minimize the damages caused due to wild animals and stray dogs, construction of lanes, drains, culverts and ponds.
While listening the developmental problems of the people, the Deputy Commissioner gave them a patient hearing and assured them that their genuine demands will be looked into a phased manner. He, however, in some cases gave on the spot directions to the concerned quarter for early redressal.  
Responding to the demand of construction of playing fields including Ice Hockey field, Vikas Kundal said that the instructions have already been given to the concerned to identify the three places for setting up of playing fields in ShakarChiktan block so that the fund could be released under “Khelo India” scheme for the purpose.
While responding to the demand of Bus for school children, the DC asked the JK State Road Transport Corporation to arrange the Bus service for school children in the area on priority.
Addressing the gathering, the DC said that K. Oil will be supplied to the consumers of ShakarChiktan block within a fortnight. He said recently 8000 MR vaccinations have been done in the area.
The DC asked the officers of the district and Tehsil administration to address the issues at grass root level and assert themselves in resolving local issues of public importance.
Senior Officers of district administration included Sub Divisional Magistrate, ShakarChiktan, Ghulam Mehdi, Chief Medical Officer, Kargil, Mohd Ibrahim Khan, Executive Engineer, R&B, Abdul Mutalib, Executive Engineer, PDD, Altaf Hussain, Assistant Director Information, Abdul Ahad Bhat and other Tehsil level officers were attended the Public Darbar.

          SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 05: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K, ShaleenKabra today issued a detailed list of alternative documents other than Electoral Photo ID Card (EPIC) for voter identification for upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) polls.  
          He said the documents allowed for identification of voters at the polling stations during the ensuing ULB polls other than EPICs are: Passport, Driving License, Service Identity Card issued to its employees by State/Central Government, Public Sector Undertakings, Local Bodies, Public Limited Companies, Bank/Post office passbooks with photographs, Income Tax Identity (PAN) Card, Aadhaar Card, Smartcard issued by RGI under NPR
          Besides, MNREGA job cards issued in J&K State, Health insurance Smart card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour, Pension Documents such as ex-servicemen’s pension payment order, Ex-servicemen’s widow/Dependent Certificates, Old Age pension order and Widow Pension order with photographs, and Voter Slip issued by Election Authority are valid alternative documents.

Under PMDP Rs 2000 cr earmarked for development of Tourism Sector
            SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 05: With soaring growth in leisure travel market, Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai today said emphasis on "eco-friendly adventure tourism" is an effective and tangible way to give back to society.
            The Advisor said this during a meeting attended by Secretary Tourism Rigzin Sampheal, Managing Director (MD) JK Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) Asif Hamid Khan, MD, JK Cable Car Corporation Shamim Malik, MD, Golf Development and Management, Ghalib Mohammed, Secretary Golf Development and Management Nuzhat Gul, Director Tourism Jammu, Om Prakash, Director Tourism Kashmir Tasaduq Jeelani, Director Planning ParveizKakroo, CEOs of developmental authorities and other officials.
            During the meeting, the Advisor said the Governor led administration is making sustainable efforts to increase tourist footfall in the State so as to give a fillip to the tourism industry in the State. However, in the pursuit, preserving of State's natural wildlife and clean environment for future generation to cherish, could not be ignored, he added.
            Speaking high about the concept of eco-friendly adventure tourism, Ganai said eco-friendly adventure tourism is need of the hour as it has many contours to it. He explained the concept not only provides a new option for adventure lovers to test their adrenaline rush at various adventure destinations in the State, but also helps in the well-being of local population by providing them new employment options.
            In the pursuit to increase tourist footfall, the Advisor urged conservation and sustenance of ecology should not be compromised. "As responsible citizens, it is our duty to ensure that our adventure activities are carried out in eco-friendly environment so that travel to natural areas does not affect conservation of the environment there," the Advisor said.
            Ganai said with great peaks, fresh water lakes, glaciers and meadows in all three regions of the State has great potential for adventure tourism and need of the hour is to promote them at national as well as international levels.
            Giving an example about the adventure places in Valley, the Advisor said Pahalgam is the "paradise for adventure tourists." He said Yusmarg is another example of a great adventure place for tourists. The Advisor directed the concerned to desist from building concrete structures in these areas.
"Don't dot the green," directed the Advisor.
            He said instead focus should be to provide maximum facilities to the travelers visiting there.
            The Advisor suggested to organize daylong trips for tourists from Pahalgam to Nagbal-Anantnag temple and spring, Pahalgam to Matan temple, Pahalgam to Achabal, Pahalgam to Verinag Garden, and Pahalgam to Kokernag garden.
            Stressing on the need to involve private sector in promoting adventure tourism in the State, the Advisor said there are many senior private players who have over the time developed expertise in the field and are presently pursuing the activities in and outside the State. He said it is better to use their expertise so that better services are provided to the travelers visiting the State.
            Highlighting the role of Tourism Development Authorities, Ganai said the purpose of creating these authorities was to harness the real potential of tourism industry in the State. Unfortunately, there were not sufficient financial resources at that time to reap maximum benefits, however, with adequate funds under Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP) the people working in these authorities should be able to deliver the optimum results.
            The Advisor asked the concerned to relook into the second phase proposal of PMDP so that all the activities, especially infrastructure development and publicity related to tourism, could be covered under the programme.
            Earlier, the Secretary Tourism revealed that the Tourism Department has formulated a draft of adventure guidelines, which has been put in public domain to seek their feedback in this regard.
            It was informed that Rs 2000 crore were earmarked for Tourism Sector in State to carry out various activities and the amount is to be spent in next five years. In the first phase, projects worth Rs 400 crore were sanctioned, while as the second phase proposal for another Rs 400 has also been sent to the Union Government for approval.

New York, Oct 3: Pepsico's Indian-origin CEO Indra Nooyi, who will step down Wednesday after 12 years at the helm of the global beverage giant, said that "lot of fuel" is still left in her "tank" and she looks forward to doing something different with her life and spend more time with her family.

Chennai-born Nooyi not only broke the glass ceiling in corporate America when she was named CEO of the global beverage giant in 2006 but, through her journey, inspired millions of young Indians who dreamed of and aspired to emulate the success the India-born woman achieved in America.

In her concluding remarks during PepsiCo's Third Quarter 2018 Earnings Conference Call on Tuesday, Nooyi said, "You know 12 years is a long time as a CEO, and even though I have a lot of fuel still left in my tank. I wanted to do something different with my life. Spend more time with my family and give the next generation in PepsiCo a chance to lead this great company."

Nooyi said she has been blessed to have had the opportunity to lead PepsiCo and work with such incredible people including our outstanding board, executives and other associates, our customers and other partners, our shareholders and all our other stakeholders.

Nooyi will step down after 24 years with the company, the last 12 as CEO. She will remain Chairman until early 2019 to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.

PepsiCo's Board of Directors had in August announced that they unanimously elected Ramon Laguarta, 54, to succeed Nooyi, 62, as Chief Executive Officer. Laguarta was also elected to the company's Board of Directors, effective October 3.

One of the most powerful and influential business leaders in the world, Nooyi was regularly featured on power lists compiled by Forbes and Fortune magazines. She was also among the few female executives to lead global corporate giants. Just under five per cent of Fortune 500 companies currently have a female CEO.

Apart from being a prominent face of women leadership across the world, she was also the epitome of success for the millions of young Indians who aspired to be like her as they watched her journey through the ranks of PepsiCo and eventually leading the global conglomerate.

She was among the first of a handful of India-born executives to helm global corporates. Nooyi was appointed as CEO in 2006, becoming PepsiCo's fifth chief executive in its 41-year history, and the first woman.

Nooyi, a mother of two daughters, was also very vocal about the challenges women faced in trying to find a balance in managing their home and work. She had famously said at an Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado in 2014 that women "cannot have it all."

In a parting letter she wrote before stepping down as CEO, Nooyi shared some reflections on what she has learnt during her tenure and the lessons that have guided her throughout my career.

"Think hard about time," she said. "We have so little of it on this earth. Make the most of your days, and make space for the loved ones who matter most. Take it from me. I've been blessed with an amazing career, but if I'm being honest, there have been moments I wish I'd spent more time with my children and family. So, I encourage you: be mindful of your choices on the road ahead, she said.

Nooyi wrote in the letter that serving as PepsiCo's CEO has been the honour of a lifetime.

Now it's on to the next adventure for us all. Thinking about my life beyond PepsiCo, I'm reminded of the words of the great Sufi mystic Rumi, she said. Quoting Rumi, she said, Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul, there is no such thing as separation.

In the conference call, Nooyi said throughout her tenure, PepsiCo has strived to achieve a difficult balance between attending to short term pressures while managing for the long-term.

She noted that PepsiCo has made positive contributions to communities around the globe in which it operates through its support of access to clean drinking water, human rights, nutrition, agricultural programmes and many more initiatives.

She said in the midst of managing the business for the long-term, PepsiCo also delivered strong and consistent financial performance specifically during the period 2006 to 2017.

Net revenue grew more than 80 per cent and the company added a new billion dollar brand almost every other year. We return USD 79 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases. Our market capitalisation increased by USD 68 billion. Dividends per share nearly tripled from USD 1.16 to USD 3.17, and we generated total shareholder return of 162 per cent, she said.

The quarterly earnings report on Nooyi's final day on the job beat analyst estimates. Revenue rose 1.5 per cent to USD 16.5 billion while earnings totalled USD 1.59 a share, both figures beating analyst estimates.

Nooyi described her successor Laguarta as a terrific executive with a long and proven track record of growing businesses. She said he has a deep understanding of the changing preferences of consumers and other critical trends unfolding around the world, and he has demonstrated that he knows how to navigate them successfully.

She expressed confidence he will lead PepsiCo to "new and greater heights in the years to come. (PTI)

KARGIL, OCTOBER 02: More than 900 sportspersons of district Kargil participated in different games under ‘Khelo India’ campaign which was declared open by Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Vikas Kundal today at Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner said that Kargil youth have immense talent which needs to be channelized in a proper way. He said recently the budding sportspersons of district Kargil have given their best performance in the games competition held at district Bandipora.
He said that every possible help would be provided by the district administration to upgrade the basic sports infrastructure.

JK KVIB organizes function at Kashmir Haat
SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 02: Jammu and Kashmir Khadi and Village Industries Board today commemorated 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by organising a function at Kashmir Haat-Srinagar.
Secretary/Chief Executive Officer- Rashid Ahmed Qadri was the Chief Guest,  who along with DyCEO (KD)-Muzaffar Allaqband and other dignitaries lit the traditional lamp and paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.
          While speaking on the occasion, Secretary/CEO said that the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi to the freedom struggle of India cannot be forgotten.
“Mahatma Gandhi showed the path of non-violence, co-existence, composite culture and communal harmony. He preached unity in diversity along with oneness and strengthening of religious bonds," said CEO, adding that the ideas of Gandhi ji are still relevant today.
He asserted that Gandhi ji stressed more on the development of villages and always encouraged rural and micro industry, which is one of the important sectors contributing towards employment generation.
"J&K Khadi and Village Industries Board has established 48,209 units under various programmes, creating employment opportunities for 1,02,947 workers. These units are annually producing Khadi and village industries products to the tune of Rs 1895 crores,” Secretary said and added that in 2017-18, J&K KVIB received 14000 applications for establishing new units.
He said that J&K KVIB has been consistently performing for the welfare of the people and on the basis of its performance, it has been designated as Nodal Agency for National Scheduled Case Scheduled Tribe Hub.
Deputy CEO also addressed the gathering and urged upon today’s generation to follow the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
Earlier, AEO- Dr Sandeep Kotwal said that best tributes could be paid to the Father of the Nation on his 150th birth anniversary by fighting against corruption and maintaining cleanliness.

Washington, Sep 29: Data of 50 million Facebook users have been exposed following a massive security breach by unknown hackers, its CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, amid fears that a significant number of the accounts affected could be from India.

The precautionary measure taken by the social media giant has impacted another 40 million users, Zuckerberg said Friday.

In a conference call with reporters, he did not give a country-wise of the user accounts hit by the data breach.

However, a significant number of affected users are expected to be from India, given that the company has the maximum 270 million users in the country. It has 2 billion global users.

Facebook did not immediately respond to a question on the number of accounts affected in India.

"On Tuesday afternoon, our engineering team found an attack affecting up to 50 million accounts on Facebook. The attackers exploited a vulnerability in the code of the View As feature which is a privacy feature that lets people see what their Facebook profile would look like to another person," Zuckerberg said.

"The vulnerability allowed the attackers to steal Facebook access tokens - which are the equivalent of a digital key - which the attackers could have used to take over or access people's accounts," he said.

Stressing that the investigation into the incident was still at a nascent stage, Zuckerberg said the social media giant does not know if any of the accounts were misused or who was behind the cyberattacks.

"So far, our initial investigation has not shown that these tokens were used to access any private messages or posts or to post anything to these accounts."

He said Facebook has taken steps to patch the security flaw to prevent this attacker - or any other attacker - from being able to steal additional access tokens.

Facebook has invalidated access tokens for the accounts, causing those users to be logged out.

"These people will now have to log back in to access their accounts again and we will also notify these people in a message on top of their News Feed about what happened when they log back in," the chief executive officer said.

In addition to getting in touch with law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Zuckerberg said Facebook is logging out all users who used the "View As" feature since the flaw was introduced last year as a precautionary measure.

"This will require another 40 million people - or more - to log back into their accounts," he said.

"This is a really serious security issue. And we're taking it really seriously. We have a major security effort at the company that hardens all of our surfaces, and investigates issues like this," he said in response to a question.

"In this case I'm glad that we found this and that we were able to fix the vulnerability and secure the accounts. But it definitely is an issue that this happened in the first place," he said.

Gary Rosen, vice president pf product management at Facebook, said in all 90 million users would have to log back in. "After they have logged back in, people will get a notification at the top of their News Feed explaining what happened," he said.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that this is an important health campaign which is aimed at healthy and secure life for our future generations and as such the paramedical staff should shoulder the utmost responsibility to achieve 100 per cent results.
Chief Medical Officer, Kargil, Dr Ibrahim Ahmad Khan and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Under the programme, as many as 42,000 children of the district are to be covered. To ensure 100 per cent success of the campaign, trained paramedical staff, Anganwari workers and ASHAs have been deployed at all places.

Vikram Randhawa said that women should participate in the Swach Bharat Abhiyaan in increasing numbers and set example in their areas for others to follow. He said that in the days to come Swach Bharat Abhiyaan would be organized in all the areas of Jammu and appealed to the people of Jammu to organise such functions in their areas.
Vikram said that Swach Bharat Abhiyaan is an awakening of our outerself. He said that our Rishi Munis showed us the way to purify our innerself and Modi Ji showed us the way to purify our ourself.

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 20: The Chief Electoral Officer, J&K Shaleen Kabra today issued notification for the conduct of 2nd Phase of Municipal Polls-2018.
The notification has been issued for Srinagar Municipal Corporation (ward No. 18 to 37), Municipal Committee Langate (ward 1 to 13 wards), Municipal Committee Sumbal (1 to 13 wards), Municipal Committee Kunzar (1 to 07 wards), Municipal Committee Watergam (1 to 13 wards), Municipal Committee Charar-i-Sharief (1 to 13 wards), Municipal Committee Beerwah (1 to 13 wards), Municipal Committee Magam (1 to 13 wards), Municipal Committee Yaripora (1 to 06 wards), Municipal Committee Frisal (1 to 13 wards), Municipal Council Anantnag (1 to 25 wards), Municipal Committee Bijbehara (1 to 17 wards) in Kashmir Division.

According to the notification the last date for making nominations is 27th September, 2018 (Thursday),  the date for the scrutiny of nominations is 28th September, 2018 (Friday), the last date for withdrawal of candidature is the 01 October, 2018 (Monday), the date on which a poll, if necessary, shall be taken from 7.00 am to 2.00 pm on 10th October, 2018 (Wednesday), the date of counting is the 20th October, 2018 (Saturday) and the date before which the election shall be completed on 27th October, 2018  (Saturday).

          SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 18: Commissioner Secretary PWD Khurshid Ahmad Shah and Secretary Disaster Management Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR) Farooq Ahmad Shah today held a meeting to review the status of World Bank funded projects in the State.
          The meeting was attended by Development Commissioner Works Satish Razdan, CEO JTFRP Vinod Sharma, MD JKPCC Viquar Shunthoo, and other officers and officials.  
          The meeting was informed that four bridges have been approved by World Bank for funding, which includes Wayil Bridge and Sadoora Bridge in Kashmir and one each in Jammu district and Poonch district. The Commissioner Secretary and Secretary DMRRR directed the officials to start the tendering process of the bridges at the earliest.
          Furthermore, preliminary work on seven more bridges and 12 roads will be undertaken so that they too are approved and groundwork started soon. They directed the officials to complete the consultancy work on the project and prepare DPRs at the earliest.
          They also directed the JKPCC to stick to the deadline and complete eight bridges and three roads, under its execution, within the stipulated timeframe. They also directed the officials to try to complete the projects of public importance like Schools, hospitals, bridges, roads, buildings silk factory Rajbagh, Silk Factory Solina before the official deadline.
          They asked the engineers and other officials to work with dedication, and problems, if any, encountered should be addressed immediately.

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 17: Chief Electoral Officer, J&K Shaleen Kabra convened a meeting with General and Expenditure Observers for Municipal Polss-2018 and instructed them to ensure that the elections are held in a free and a fair manner.
Addressing a team of over 200 officers drawn from across the state, CEO briefed them about their role and responsibility under the guidelines and provisions of the Municipal Corporation and Council/ Committee Act and rules. 
With the announcement of municipal elections, the General Observers and Expenditure Observers are being deployed by the election authority in each municipal body. They are expected to keep a close watch on the election process and act as eyes and ears for the election authority to ensure the smooth conduct of elections. They were given the Observer’s Kit containing all relevant material pertaining to the conduct of Municipal Elections.
CEO laid stress on the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct, which has come into effect in the entire state with the announcement of Municipal as well as Panchayat Polls. He asked the Observers to strictly monitor the election guidelines regarding the campaign environment, mechanism for complaints, preparation for elections, voting, counting etc. The observers were further intimated regarding the use of EVMs in Municipal Elections 2018 and for that necessary actions including first level checking and sufficient availability was to be ensured. The special provisions of postal ballot facility for Migrant voters was also discussed at length. 
The officers were asked to assess the sensitivity of constituencies/committees, be watchful about electoral malpractices, electoral offences, surrogate expenditure and intimate the election authority promptly in case of any violations of guidelines and rules.
Regarding the implementation of Model Code of Conduct Kabra instructed the observers to get themselves fully acquainted with the frequently asked questions, besides going through the guidelines of MCC and implementing the same in letter and spirit for the interest of free and fair elections.
The expenditure observers were further impressed upon to ensure that the expenditures incurred by the contesting candidates should be adhered within the ceiling fixed by the election authority vide Notification issued on 29th August, 2018 i.e 1.5 lakhs, 1 lakh & 0.5 lakhs for a ward of Corporation, Council and committee respectively.

As per the schedule issued from the office of CEO, date of issuance of notification is on 24th September, last date for making nomination is on 01stOctober, date of scrutiny is 03rd October, last date of withdrawal is 05th October and date of polling is 16th October, 2018. Polling timing has been kept from 7 am to 2 pm.
