Panaji, Feb 6: Directorate of Art and Culture, Goa, in collaboration with Bangla Natak Dot Com will organise 'Sur Jahan' world peace music festival 2018 from February 7 to 9 at Kala Academy here.
According to a statement here on Tuesday, in this year's festival, 'Tuuletar', Finland, 'Muzsikas', Hungary, 'Muzykanci', Poland, 'Cheikh Lo', Senegal and 'Atse Tewodros Project', Italy/Ethiopia, internationally acclaimed groups will perform along with Indian group 'Nizami Khusro Brother' and 'Bengal Goa Musical Ensemble', in which Goan artists will also perform.
'Sur Jahan' is one of the most awaited international performance programme based on Indian and western music organised by the Department of Art and Culture for the last two years.
Directorate of Art and Culture initially started this programme in 2016 as 'Sufi Sutra'. However, eventually the name was changed to 'Sur Jahan' as the performance in the festival was not restricted to Sufi music but also other national and international bands perform in the festival.
During the first festival in February 2016 group from Scotland, Portugal, Turkey, Hungary and Brazil performed in the festival along with Indian groups 'Warsi Brothers', 'Bengal Goa Musical Ensemble' in which Goan performers also participated.
Last year this festival was organised from February 8 to 10 in which 'Virelai' from Denmark, 'Bra Agas' from Czech Republic, 'Ale Moller Quartet' from Sweden, 'Ellika Solo Rafael' Sweden, 'Otava Yo' Russia these five international group performed along with Indian group 'Tarak Khyapa' Bengali Baul, 'East West Local and 'Panjabi Quwwali' in which Goan artists also performed. UNI
