Srinagar, Feb 12: Train service resumed on Monday after remaining suspended on Sunday for security reasons in the Kashmir valley.
'We have resumed train service in the Kashmir valley after receiving a fresh advisory from the police last night', a railway official told on Monday morning.
He said trains will run between Badgam-Srinagar to Anantnag, Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region. Similarly trains will chug on Srinagar-Badgam to Baramulla in north Kashmir, he added.
Railway spokesperson said that railway authorities were acting on the advice of police and administration. However, he admitted it is the passengers who are facing difficulties when the train service remained suspended. 'We expect heavy rush of passengers today when people are resuming their duties and business after availing Sunday holiday,' he said.
Train service has become very popular in the valley as it's being considered fast, safe and cheap against other mode of transport.
Railway property suffered heavy damage due to demonstration and protests in the past. In 2016 summer unrest train service remained suspended for more than six months.UNI
