New Delhi, Feb 5: Delhi Police on early Monday morning arrested a wanted criminal carrying a
bounty of Rs 70,000 on his head after a brief encounter outside the Okhla Mandi
area here, police said.
The wanted criminal is also a sharp shooter.
A police official said, the special staff of the south east district got a tip-off that Tanwir alias Munnawar would be coming at Okhla in a car. After receiving the information, police surrounded the area and set up barricades to intercept the criminal and stop him.
Tanwir, who arrived with an accomplice, rammed his car into the police barricade and opened fire on the police personnel.
In the exchange of fire between the police and Tanwir, bullets hit him twice, but he survived as he was wearing a bulletproof jacket. After the encounter, Tanwir was arrested and taken to the hospital.
However, the accomplice of the criminal managed to escape, the official added.
During the encounter, two police personnel were also hit by the bullets but they were
saved as they were also wearing bulletproof jackets.
Tanwir was wanted in multiple cases which includes the 2016 Prahladpur incident in
which he was accused of shooting on police personnel.
Tanwir is also accused of murdering two youths in Delhi's Brahmapuri and Vijaypark in October 2017. CCTV footage is also an evidence of these two murders, police said.
He is also booked in a murder case in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh.
