New Delhi, Feb 15: Taking a potshot about Nirav Modi, the main architect of Rs 11,500 crore Punjab National Bank fraud case, who accompanied Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Davos, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday demanded that the Union government must clarify its position.
Nirav Modi, a luxury diamond jewellery designer with a net worth of 1.74 billion dollar, who figured in Forbes India's Richest People List 2016, fled the country before CBI filed an FIR.
“If this person had fled India before (filed) the FIR on Jan 31, then he is here, photographed at Davos with Prime Minister, a week before the FIR, after having escaped from India? Modi govt must clarify” Mr Yechury tweeted with a photograph of Mr Modi as part of the business delegation with the Prime Minister at Davos.
He said under the Modi government, rich people are allowed to leave country after looting public money.
“All the taxes are on the poor and the middle class while the rich are allowed to loot public money in Modi Sarkar”, he said in another tweet.
Mr Yechury also said that there is a pattern in how people who have defrauded banks in India, are allowed to escape by the Modi government. UNI
