Agartala, March 2: Amid threat of violence
and political tension, election commission of India (ECI) has made elaborate
arrangements for holding counting of votes of Tripura assembly poll along with
Meghalaya and Nagaland tomorrow across 20 centres of the state.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sriram Taranikanta said that
counting of votes would begin at 0800 hrs in 59 tables with the postal ballot
and after half-an-hour EVM votes counting will be started under three-tier
security cover.
Besides, counting halls and centres central paramilitary force personnel would be deployed on the surrounding areas, streets, all sensitive locations and crowded areas across the state to avert any attempt of violence.
The entire counting proceeding will be gone for webcasting and electronic surveillance through CCTVs will be conducted from every nook and corners of the counting centres, while there will be one General Observer in each counting centre along with sufficient Micro Observer for each counting table, CEO said.
Inside the counting centre, there will be two layers of security arrangement to be maintained by central paramilitary forces while outer layer will be manned by Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans.
Altogether 27 General Observer will monitor the counting centres and 8 police observers will also oversee the security arrangements of counting. To maintain transparency in counting, respective returning officers would be announcing the result after each round and finally announce the result following all norms and procedures of ECI, Taranikanta pointed out.
“The respective ROs will upload the election result immediately after declaration and general observers of each of the constituencies will remain be present in the hall along with senior level micro observers to ensure transparency in the process. Apart from that, several other restrictions were imposed in the counting halls,” he stated.
Altogether 91.57 percent electorates including 91.69 percent female had decided the fate of 292 candidates including 23 women and more than 90 independent contestants across 3100 odd polling stations on Feb 18 last.
On the other, about 50,772 postal ballots were issued, among them 4 percent were received through posts and 96 percent of postal ballot voting was held at felicitation centres in each district, Taranikanta maintained. As part of precautionary measure, a prohibitory order has been clamped within the 200-meter vicinity of each counting centre.
The political tension runs high in last 10 days after polling due to violence across the state. The situation become further tensed with the exit polls given by different organizations and analysts of inside and outside the state, which indicated a comfortable victory of BJP-IPFT alliance ending up 25 yrs rule of communist in Tripura.
