Agartala, Mar 9: Notwithstanding bitter and fierce battle in the just-concluded Assembly polls
in Tripura, senior BJP and CPI(M) leaders showed enough maturity and conducted
themselves in a dignified manner at the swearing-in ceremony here wherein first
BJP-led regime took charge of the governance.
Befitting cordial bond that has been hallmark during the last
two decades between one another, outgoing Chief Minister Manik Sarkar sat
between two top BJP leaders L K Advani and M M Joshi.
Mr Sarkar, who enjoyed good rapport with Mr Advani when the latter was Union Home Minister in Vajpayee government, was seen frequently exchanging pleasantries with the BJP patriarch.
Mr Sarkar - who came under attack by Home Minister Rajnath Singh during the height of election campaign - also shook hands with him and exchanged pleasantries.
Even the post poll scene in Tripura saw a marked protest from CPI(M) and BJP workers and at Belobia even a statue of Vladimir Lenin was brought down. BJP workers and leaders, however, denied involvement even as the BJP leadership came in under attack.
The highlight of Friday's swearing-in was Mr Sarkar shaking hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi who later guided the former out of the venue shortly after the oath ceremony of the new Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues.
Apparently, Mr Modi did not want to embarrass the outgoing Chief Minister as shortly after the oath taking ceremony, Mr Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah and the new Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb addressed the gathering.
This was unlike the swearing in ceremony at Guwahati in 2016 when the outgoing Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi sat through the speech of the Prime Minister. UNI
