New Delhi, Mar 5: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Wednesday expressed confidence that the impasse in Parliament over discussion of banking frauds will be resolved in a day or two.
She said this after chairing an all-party meeting of leaders in the House she had convened.
Talking to mediapersons outside Parliament, Ms Mahajan said she has asked party leaders to talk to one another and resolve the matter because the impression being created through pandemonium in the House is not good. ``There are people who come from abroad to watch Parliament. People watch proceedings on television and with such scenes a wrong message goes out and the aim of Parliament goes awry.’’
The Speaker said all leaders put forth their point of view but she told them that a solution would have to be found to break the deadlock. ``Let’s see if not today, then in two-three days it will be resolved.’’
In answer to a question about Congress objection to the use of term ``over the years’’ in the banking fraud matter, Ms Mahajan said, ``Over the years can mean one year, two years or 10 years. I don’t think it happened in one day. It must have taken more time. And it is not about one person or one bank. This is a fault in the system also. That is what I did after discussions and taking into account all notices in the matter. This also I explained to them.’’
On placards being shown in the House, she said the rules have been framed by members. ``Whether it is to create disruptions, raise placards or come into the Well of the House, members can express their views briefly and then return to their seat. All these issues were discussed.’’
Asked whether women members will get more chance to speak on International Women’s Day on Thursday, she said, ``Let Parliament run first, then they will speak. After all they are also part of Parliament.’’
Among those who attended the meeting were KC Venugopal (Congress), Saugata Roy (AITC), Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJD), M Thambidurai (AIADMK), Bhagwant Singh Mann (AAP), and Anandrao Vithoba Adsul (Shiv Sena).
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar, Minister of State Arjun Meghwal and BJP Chief Whip in Lok Sabha Rakesh Singh also participated in the meeting. UNI
