Varanasi, Mar 12: French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday fully enjoyed a boat ride on Ganga along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid recital of vedic mantras and showering of flower petals by the local people of the Parliamentary constituency of Mr Modi.
Both the leaders enjoyed the boat ride for about 20 minutes from Assi ghat to Dashashmed ghat on a double decker motor boat decked with flowers.
Mr Macron and Mr Modi climbed down the Assi ghat while waving to the crowd. The 121 pandits recited vedic mantras and blew conches to welcome the guests. Several people of the city, including women met both the leaders at Assi as well as Dashashmed ghats.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath too accompanied the dignitaries on the boat.
In their over one kilometer long boat ride, Mr Modi told the French President about the importance of Varanasi and gave details about the different ghats it crossed.
After alighting from the boat at Dashashmed ghat, Mr Macron and Mr Modi left for Taj Hotel for the lunch.
Earlier, the French President visited Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hastkala Sankul in Bada Lalpur and inaugurated a solar power plant in Mirzapur.
After lunch, the Prime Minister would reach DLW to address a public meeting after dedicating projects worth over Rs 1,500 crore for his constituency.
Mr Modi is expected to leave for New Delhi at 1800 hrs. UNI
