Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

Lucknow, Jan 26 :  Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday reminded people of their constitutional duties.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the Foundation Day programme of the state at the Awadh Shilp Gram here, he said, "The Constitution has given us a lot. Therefore, we should feel proud of it. We talk about our constitutional rights, but not about our duties. Along with the rights, the Constitution tells us about our duties too. India is among the few democratic countries in the world that gave voting rights to every adult citizen immediately after the Constitution came into force."

The welfare of the country and the society would be possible only when the citizens discharged their duties honestly, the chief minister said.

The three-day programme had begun on January 24, a statement issued by the Uttar Pradesh government said.

"This programme was a platform for not only the artisans of Lucknow, but those from different regions of the state," Adityanath said.

Reminding the gathering that Uttar Pradesh was the land of civilisation and culture, he said, "We can give a lot to the country and the world. For this, the 23 crore people of Uttar Pradesh will have to discharge their constitutional duties with honesty. When every person uses his full potential, Uttar Pradesh will be among the leading states in the country.

Lucknow, Aug 7   :   Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday expressed deep condolences on the demise of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, saying she was known for a clean and dignified politics.

The standards of clean politics she set were etched in minds of people, he said in New Delhi after paying tributes to the veteran parliamentarian.

The chief minister said, "Sushmaji's departure is a big loss for the whole country. Sushmaji was an inspiration for all of us."

He said Swaraj made a significant contribution to politics for over four decades and served the country with the same devotion she had on entering the public life.

She performed all responsibilities given to her by the party and it was because of people like her that the respect for women grew, he said.

Adityanath, who visited the BJP office in Delhi to pay tributes to the departed leader, said, "Sushmaji was always ready to share her experiences. She would often tell us as to how to present oneself in Parliament. She was a great orator and guided us on how to address people on different occasions."

He recalled that despite being unwell, Sushmaji was continuously contributing towards the success of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Varanasi.

"The way she was working for the success of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas from 7 am to 12 pm is truly admirable. Her contribution will always be remembered," he said, according to an official release issued here.                                                      [Agencies]

Ayodhya, Aug 3   :   Visiting here a day after the Supreme Court noted that a mediation panel had not come up with a solution to the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said he knew that the effort would fail.

We knew all along that nothing is going to come out of mediation, he said at a gathering of seers. But it is good. If there is an effort, it is a good thing.

There had been mediation before the Mahabharat as well. But the the effort failed, he said.

Adityanath also praised the soldiers and said: "Terrorists don't understand the language of love, so Indian soldiers did 'Shiv Tandav' with surgical strike."

"Actually, a lot of terrorists were killed during surgical strike but Pakistan is hiding the facts," he claimed at an event on Monday.

Lucknow, Dec 15 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit on Sunday Rae Bareli, his first trip to the traditional seat of the Gandhi family.
He will also visit Allahabad to review preparations for the Kumbh Mela to be held in the city next year.

Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party media co-incharge Navin Srivastava told PTI, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Rae Bareli and then he will be in Allahabad."

Modi will hold a public meeting and flag off the Humsafar Express on Sunday, an official said.

According to district officials, the prime minister will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate projects worth Rs 1,100 crore during the visit.

On Thursday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had visited Rae Bareli to oversee preparations for the visit. He also took a tour of the Rail Coach Factory in the district.

The prime minister's visit is being seen as a strategy of the BJP to pin the Congress leadership in their respective constituencies in the 2019 general election. Rae Bareli is represented in the Lok Sabha by former Congress chief and UPA (United Progressive Alliance) chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Modi's visit was planned before the counting of votes polled in the five states was taken up on December 11, following which the Congress party threw out BJP governments in three states - Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Sonia Gandhi has not visited Rae Bareli since April. Before that, she visited the constituency in mid-2016. Also, she did not campaign in the constituency during the 2017 UP election, after she developed a health issue during a roadshow in Varanasi.

The Congress has accused the Modi government of derailing the development of Rae Bareli.

Union Finance minister and Rajya Sabha member Arun Jaitley had recently spent his Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLAD) funds on developmental works in the constituency.

Modi is likely to visit Uttar Pradesh again on December 29 to issue a commemorative postal stamp on backward caste Maharaja Suheldev Rajbhar and lay the foundation stone of infrastructure projects in Ghazipur.

Election results may be good or bad for those politically-inclined depending on their party affiliation, but Twitterati across the spectrum are having a field day with catchy one-liners, jokes and memes all around, ranging from 'Pappu pass ho gaya' to the 'BJP gets triple talaq'.

New Delhi, Dec 12 (PTI) Election results may be good or bad for those politically-inclined depending on their party affiliation, but Twitterati across the spectrum are having a field day with catchy one-liners, jokes and memes all around, ranging from 'Pappu pass ho gaya' to the 'BJP gets triple talaq'.

A good number of jokes are also targetted at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who had campaigned extensively for the BJP during the elections. Several viral memes take a swipe at his numerous 'name-changing' ideas and one of those shows the firebrand leader telling Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he would change the meaning of 'defeat' to 'victory'.

Another meme showed Adityanath, who had talked about changing the names of cities like Hyderabad during his election campaign, suggesting changing the name of Congress party itself to the 'BJP'.

But, a tweet said it was time for Adityanath himself to again become 'Ajay Singh Bisht', his earlier name.

Divya Spandana of the Congress party's social media team retweeted an old tweet of Modi from December 2003, wherein the then Gujarat chief minister had said that the results of five states showed the way the wind was blowing and it was beginning of 'Congress-Mukt Bharat', but she replaced the word 'Congress' with the 'BJP'.

Celebrity author Shobhaa De tweeted, "Not only has Pappu passed, he has earned an instant PhD. Let's hope he stays the course and doesn't get distracted. India needs him to see the 2019 elections through."

Actress Swara Bhasker tweeted, "Looks like BJP got 'Pappu'd three times over". Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is often referred to as 'Pappu' on social media by right-wing trolls, while some BJP leaders have also called him by this name.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said, "No wonder the BJP is so upset today. The voters just gave them a triple talaq", referring to the Congress emerging victorious in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

He also referred to Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Kamal Nath's statement that he was ensuring personal delivery of the party's stake-claim letter to the state's Governor, saying it was good that the party was not relying on the "Governor's fax machine in MP", taking a swipe at a recent fax machine controversy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah also tweeted that the Congress leaders in Madhya Pradesh were "smart people" as they were not faxing their letter to Raj Bhawan in Bhopal.

One of the viral memes blamed Yogi for the BJP losses and said it was his "caste certificate" to Lord Hanuman which hurt the party and the results are like a revenge by the monkey-god on Tuesday, a day when Hanuman is worshipped.

Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav tweeted in Hindi, "Abki baar, kho di sarkar" (This time, lost the government), punning it on the popular BJP slogan of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, 'Abki baar, Modi sarkar'.

Along with the beautification of these roads, all necessary and modern facilities should also be provided, he said here on Tuesday, adding that the urban local bodies should also make arrangements for cleaning the drains and keeping them covered.

According to the Directorate of Local Bodies, there are 16 municipal corporations, 198 nagar palika parishads and 438 nagar panchayats in the state.

Reviewing various schemes such as "Namami Gange", "Amrut Yojana" and "Smart City Mission", Adityanath said people from various parts of the world will be visiting the Kumbh-2019, which will be held in Allahabad from January 15 to March 4 next year.

Adityanath also said it should be ensured that from December 15, no sewage canal, industrial or soild waste falls into the Ganga or any of its tributaries.

From January 2019, the holy river should be clean and its flow should be uninterrupted from Bijnor to Ballia, he added.

Lucknow, Sep 5: Taking strong note of frequent competitive exam question paper leakages, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed investigating bodies to invoke the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against those involved in such acts and "blacklist" agencies responsible.

"The exams should be transparent and corruption-free. The government will not tolerate those trying to play with the future of youths. Strict action will be taken against those who pollute the examination process," an official spokesman said Wednesday quoting the chief minister.

"The NSA will be invoked against those involved in paper leaks and if discrepancies are committed by the agencies involved in the process, they will be blacklisted and legal action will be taken against them," said the chief minister, according to the spokesperson.

The CM is of the view that the exam system should be made foolproof and directed officials heading recruitment boards to ensure vacancies in their departments are filled without much delay.

"The posts in any department should not remain vacant for longer duration. They should be filled timely," the CM said.

Last week, the UP Pradesh Special Task Force had arrested 11 people for their alleged roles in the leakage of questions papers for tubewell operators recruitment tests, which is organised by the UP Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC).

The leakages led to the cancellation of the examination and the UPSSSC had said it will prepare "at least two sets of question papers" as a corrective measure.

"We are planning to have at least two sets of question papers so that in case of leakage of a particular set another set of questions can be given to the examinees," UPSSSC Chairman CB Paliwal said.

"A proposal will be sent to the state government suggesting two examinations -- screening and mains. This will help in weeding out chances of possible leakage of question papers in the future," Paliwal had said.

In the past, leakages of questions papers of various examinations were reported from the most populous state of the country, earning it a bad name and giving tough time to both the job aspirants and the cops.

On July 29, as many as 51 people were arrested by the UP Police from different parts of the state for facilitating cheating during a recruitment examination for assistant teachers.

On June 18 this year, 19 people were arrested for allegedly aiding cheating through hi-tech devices, such as spy-mics, and placing "solvers" impersonating aspirants in the Uttar Pradesh police constable recruitment examination.

On August 23, 2017, seven members of a gang allegedly involved in leaking a question paper of the online examination for sub-inspectors (SI) were arrested by the STF.

Gorakhpur (UP), Aug 3: The Samajwadi Party today accused the Uttar Pradesh government of encouraging corrupt practices at Gorakhpur's state-run Baba Raghav Das Medical College, where nearly 60 children died allegedly due to disruption in supply of liquid oxygen last year.

"Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath says his government has zero tolerance for corruption. But in his home town, BRD Medical College is involved in a scam of Rs 5 lakh per month in purchase of liquid oxygen," SP district president Prahlad Yadav said.

"During previous governments, the medical college used to purchase liquid oxygen at the rate of Rs 16.50 per litre. After August 10 last year, the hospital started purchasing liquid oxygen directly from a company in Rajasthan at the rate of Rs 19.39 per litre. The consumption of liquid oxygen at the college is from 1.20 lakh to 1.50 lakh litre liquid oxygen gas per month. During peak months like August, the consumption is even more," Yadav said, alleging a scam of around Rs 5 lakh per month.

Asked about the source of his information, Yadav did not offer any.

"We have our sources and we know it. If government wants to say something, they should come out with proof to deny the allegations made by us."

More than 60 children, mostly infants, died at the hospital within a week in August 2017. There were allegations that the deaths occurred due to disruption in oxygen supply over unpaid bills to the vendor. The state government had vehemently denied that a shortage of oxygen led to the deaths.

The district president also said that the state government was not making hospital data public and maintaining secrecy. During the previous Akhilesh Yadav government, directions were given to the hospital to release admission, death and recovery data by 4 pm every day.

When BJP Mahanagar president Rahul Srivastav was asked about the issue, he said, "All allegations made by the SP leader are baseless. The rates (of liquid oxygen) have increased due to GST."

Azamgarh (UP), Jul 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today came down heavily on the Congress over its stand on triple talaq, asking if it was a party for Muslim men alone.

"The real face of these parties was revealed by their approach on triple talaq, he said at a public meeting here, part of his two-day visit to eastern Uttar Pradesh.

On one side the Centre is making efforts to ease and improve the life of women and on the other these parties are working to put the life of women, especially Muslim women, in danger, he said, criticising the opposition.

"Crores of Muslim women had always demanded that triple talaq should be banned, as it is banned even in Islamic countries, he said.

I read in the newspaper that the Congress president had said that Congress is a party of Muslims, and there has been discussion on this for the past two days. I am not surprised as when Manmohan Singh was PM, he had said that Muslims have the first right over natural resources, he said.

But I want to ask the Congress whether it is a party of Muslims men alone," he said.

The criticism comes just days ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament during which the BJP-led government is likely to push for the passage in the Rajya Sabha of a bill against instant triple talaq.

The bill has already been passed in the Lower House, but remains pending in the Rajya Sabha amid opposition reservations over it.

"Is there any place for the dignity and the rights of Muslim women? They have stalled legislation in the Parliament and they do not allow Parliament to run," Modi said.

"These dynastic parties are toiling to oust Modi. I want to tell them that there are still four or five days left for the Parliament session to begin. Meet the victims of talaq and halala, ask them about their plight, and then put your point of view in Parliament," he said.

The prime minister was in Azamgarh to lay the foundation stone for the 340-km Purvanchal Expressway which will connect Lucknow with Ghazipur.

Modi will also address rallies in Varanasi and Mirzapur and launch a slew of other development projects.

Lucknow, Jun 25 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath targeted the Congress today claiming those who had once imposed Emergency in the country were talking of democracy now.

"It is unfortunate that a party that imposed Emergency 43 years ago is talking about democracy now," Adityanath said at an event here. He said June 25 was a very important day as on this day Emergency was imposed in the country in 1975.

"It is surprising that those who imposed emergency are talking about democracy. Those who indulged in corruption are talking about morality, the communal are talking abut humanity and casteists are demanding social justice," Adityanath said attacking opposition parties.

He said time had come for people to start the preparations for teaching a lesson to those who issue such contradictory statements.

The chief minister asked the event organisers, Sanskar Bharti, to help in making the coming Kumbh Mela at Allahabad, in which tourists and pilgrims from 192 countries would be visiting, a grand success.  PTI
Lucknow, Jun 23 :  Mango lovers have a chance to taste over 700 varieties of the fruit at a two-day festival here with 'Yogi mango' named after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath being the centre of attraction of the event.

Adityanath today inaugurated the two-day festival dedicated to the kings of fruits and stressed that horticulture can help double farmers' income.

"Horticulture can help in achieving the target of doubling farmers' income and officials need to make the farmers aware of it," he said inaugurating the festival which will showcase over 700 varieties of mango in the country.

"Uttar Pradesh is the leading mango growing state which also grows the maximum varieties," Adityanath said.

The chief minister also hailed the effort of holding the festival which he said will help enhance the income of farmers.

Stressing the need to encourage the different varieties of mangoes grown in the state, he regretted that in the absence of proper marketing the state was not succeeding in branding its product.

Besides the other mango varieties, the variety from Saharanpur named "Yogi" after the chief minister was the centre of attraction in the festival.

The mango growers of Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are also taking part in the festival which will conclude tomorrow.

During the two-day festival the mango producers will be made abreast with the latest techniques to augment the quality of production, Director of horticulture and food processing department, Raghvendra Pratap Singh said.

Gorakhpur (UP), Jun 19 :  Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today termed the BJP's decision to pull out of the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir as a step in favour of the state and the country.

"From the past three years, continuous efforts were being made to work for the people and according to their wishes. Today the BJP central leadership, after taking the deputy CM, ministers, MLAs and local leaders in confidence, pulled out of the BJP-PDP alliance," he said.

He said the BJP-led government at the Centre had made a lot of effort for Jammu and Kashmir.

The chief minister held a review meeting at the circuit house here with local officials and inspected the Ramgarh Lake.

He also hoisted a 100-foot tricolour installed near the gate of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University by a voluntary organisation.PTI

Lucknow, Jun 15: It was not Akbar but Rajput king Maharana Pratap who was great, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said.
Speaking at a function to mark the Maharana Pratap Jayanti yesterday, he asserted, "It was not the Mughal emperor Akbar, but Maharana Pratap who was great for he displayed exemplary courage in the face of the might of the Mughal army.
"It is not important as to who won the Battle of Haldighati. What is important is who stood up to the most powerful army of those times," he said.
"Maharana Pratap displayed courage and valour, which is rare in history," he said.
"The battle continued for years in the hills of Aravalli, and finally after winning back all his forts, it was proved that it is was not Akbar but Maharana Pratap who was great," he said.
It is a popular view of historians that the forces of Mughal emperor Akbar had defeated Maharana Pratap in the battle of Haldighati in 1576.
"He (Maharana) guarded the self-respect and honour of the country through his bravery and valour even in that phase of history," Adityanath said.
The chief minister added that the Rajput king was relevant even today.
Adityanath also released a special edition of RSS magazine 'Avadh Prahri' on the occasion.
