Srinagar, Mar 5: Mobile internet service of all Cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar
Nigam Limited (BSNL), has been suspended in south Kashmir as a precautionary
measure to prevent, spread of any rumour following Shopian incident.
With the recovery of two more bodies, on Monday morning, the death toll on Sunday night’s encounter in south Kashmir district of Shopian, raised to six, including two Lashkher-e-Toiba (LeT) militants.
Meanwhile, the speed of all mobile and broadband internet services, including 3G and 4G, have been reduced to 2G in the summer capital, Srinagar and other parts of the valley.
The authorities have snapped internet service in all four districts of Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam and Anantnag districts as a precautionary measure. But, broadband and private point to point internet was working in some places though with very low speed as of now.
However, massive clashes have been reported between security forces and demonstrators, protesting the killings in many areas in Kashmir valley, including Budgam, Bandipora and Shopian.
Official sources told that authorities have also asked telecom operators to reduce the speed of 3G and 4G mobile internet and broadband services to 2G .
The authorities have in the past also suspended mobile and broadband services in the valley as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of any rumour. But, the suspension of internet has most of the times added to the spreading to rumours. UNI
