Delhi, Mar 20: For the 12th day of the second half of the budget session
on Tuesday, the Rajya Sabha witnessed uproar by the TDP, the AIADMK and the DMK
on the issue of special status for Andhra Pradesh and the Cauvery water
dispute, forcing adjournment of the House for the day.
Soon after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj made a
statement on the 39 missing Indians in Iraq, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya
Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad stood up to raise the issue of the bank scams in the
country.He said leaders of ten Opposition parties had met in his room on Tuesday morning and called for discussion on this important issue in the House.
Opposition wants discussion on banking scam, Special Category Status and Cauvery issue. "We are interested in discussing all the issues," Mr Azad said.
Law Minister Ravishankar Prasad said the government was ready for discussion.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Goel said the government is ready for discussion on any issue.
However, even as Mr Azad was speaking, MPs from the AIADMK, DMK and TDP entered the Well to protest on the issues of special status for Andhra and Cauvery issues.
Mr Goel said the Narendra Modi-led government has done good work.
"We are not afraid of anything,' he said amid thumping of benches by BJP members.
Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said that he has been stressing from day one that all important issues, including banking scam and Cauvery issue, should be debated.
'The government as well as the LOP are ready for a discussion, ' he said.
Despite pleas by the Chairman to members to allow the House to proceed, the members refused to go back to the seats and continued their sloganeering.
As the protesting members kept standing in the Well, Mr Naidu adjourned the House for the day. UNI
