Shopian shuts against civilian killing, strike continues in Tral

Srinagar, Apr 27: A complete shutdown was observed on Friday in Shopian in south Kashmir in protest against the killing of a student during a shootout at Anantnag yesterday.

Meanwhile, life remained affected for the third day on Friday in some areas in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where four militants, including Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) operational commander , Mufti Yasir, an aide of Masood Azhar, were killed in an encounter with security forces on Tuesday.

An Army soldier and a Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police were also martyred in the encounter.

Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Shopian against the killing of Shafiq Shabir Shah. Police said 21-year-old Shah, a student of BA second year was injured when militants, travelling in a car opened fire yesterday afternoon.

Shah was rushed to local hospital from where he was referred to Srinagar. He was declared brought dead in the hospital.

Work in government offices and banks was affected due to strike. Educational institutions were also closed.

Additional security forces have been deployed to maintain law and order, official sources said.

Meanwhile, business and other activities remained affected for the third day on Friday in Tral and adjoining area though there was no strike call from any separatist organization. However, some private vehicles were seen plying on some routes. Work in government offices, banks and other institutions was also affected. Educational institutions remained closed in the town.
