Srinagar, June 27 : Security forces have arrested four overground workers of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit from Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir, the police said today. 

Acting on a specific information, police and CRPF laid a joint cordon at fruit mandi crossing in Sopore on Tuesday evening and arrested four OGWs of proscribed terror outfit JeM, a police spokesman said.

He said the arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Ayoub Malla, Fayaz Ahmad War, Javid Ahmad War and Maqsood Ahmad War. 

"Two UBGL, two grenades and matrix sheets of JeM outfit were recovered," he said, adding the accused persons were booked under relevant sections of the law.   PTI

Srinagar, Apr 28: Life remained affected for the second day on Saturday due to shutdown in south Kashmir's Shopian district to protest the death of a student during a shootout at Anantnag on Thursday.
Meanwhile, life returned to normal in Tral and adjoining areas in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where four militants, including Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) operational commander Mufti Yasir, an aide of Masood Azhar, were killed in an encounter with security forces on Tuesday. An Army soldier and a Special Operation Group (SOG) cop of Jammu and Kashmir police were also martyred in the encounter.
Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the road in Shopian against the killing of Shafiq Shabir Shah. Police said 21-year-old Shah, a student of BA second year, was injured when militants, travelling in a car, opened fire on Thursday afternoon.
Shah was rushed to local hospital from where he was referred to Srinagar. He was declared brought dead in the hospital. Work in government offices and banks was affected due to strike. Educational institutions also remained affected. However, some private vehicles were plying on different routes in the district.
Additional security forces have been deployed to maintain law and order, official sources said.
Meanwhile, business and other activities resumed on Saturday in Tral and adjoining area after remaining affected since Tuesday. Work in government offices and educational institutions also resumed. UNI

Srinagar, Apr 27: A complete shutdown was observed on Friday in Shopian in south Kashmir in protest against the killing of a student during a shootout at Anantnag yesterday.
Meanwhile, life remained affected for the third day on Friday in some areas in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where four militants, including Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) operational commander , Mufti Yasir, an aide of Masood Azhar, were killed in an encounter with security forces on Tuesday.
An Army soldier and a Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police were also martyred in the encounter.
Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Shopian against the killing of Shafiq Shabir Shah. Police said 21-year-old Shah, a student of BA second year was injured when militants, travelling in a car opened fire yesterday afternoon.
Shah was rushed to local hospital from where he was referred to Srinagar. He was declared brought dead in the hospital.

Srinagar, Mar 8: Train service remained suspended for the fourth day on Thursday for security reasons in north Kashmir, while service has been resumed in south after three days.
We have resumed train service in south Kashmir after remaining suspended for three days, a senior railway official told adding train service remained suspended in north Kashmir for the fourth day today.
Trains will run between Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region as per schedule today, he said.
However, he said, no train will chug on Srinagar-Budgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north, he said.
He said a fresh advisory was received last night from police to resume the normal train service in south Kashmir. The advisory said train service will remain suspended in north Kashmir for security reasons, he said.
We are acting on the advice of police, he said the decision has been taken in the interest of passengers and railway property. 
Train service in the valley was suspended from Monday, when there was a separatist strike call against the killing of six people, including two Lashkher-e-Toiba (LeT) militants in an encounter with security forces in Shopian on Sunday night. 
A Chief commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) involved in about four fidayeen attacks, incuding Sunjwan Army camp in Jammu, was also killed in an encounter on Monday afternoon in Pulwama. Though there was no strike call on Tuesday, train service remained suspended in the valley.
However, the service remained suspended yesterday also when there was a strike call by separatists against the shifting of detenues to outside valley jails besides Shopian Challo.
Railway property worth crores of rupees has been damaged in the past due to protests and demonstrators in the valley.
During last year the train service was suspended for over 50 times partially or fully for security reasons. However, in 2016 train service remained suspended for about six months during summer unrest.
Train service has become a very popular in the Kashmir valley which is being considered cheap, fast and safe. UNI

Srinagar, Mar 7: Train service remained suspended for the third day on Wednesday for security reasons in Kashmir, where separatist have called for a general strike against shifting of detenues outside valley jails and “Shopian Challo” against killing of two Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants and four others in an encounter on Sunday night.
A Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) self-styled chief commander, responsible for four fidayeen attacks, including on Sunjwan Army camp, was also killed in an encounter in Pulwama on Monday.
However, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, passing through south Kashmir, was through for one-way traffic.
Train service remained suspended for the third consecutive day today, a railway official told.
Railway official said that no train will run between Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region. Similarly no train will also operate on Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north, he said.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yaseen Malik had called for strike on Monday against the Shopian killing. Srinagar, Mar 6: Security forces on Tuesday launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Tral area of south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where a top Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant was killed, official sources said.
They said on a tip off about the presence of militants, troops of 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at village Satura, Tral, in Pulwama this morning. All exit points have been sealed and a massive search operation has been launched.
Details are awaited, they added.

Srinagar, Mar 5: A self styled top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) Mufti Waqas, masterminded of Sunjawan fidayeen attack on Army camp was killed in an encounter by security forces in south Kashmir district of Pulwama Monday evening, a defence ministry spokesman said.
Giving details about the encounter, Col Rajesh Kalia said that based on specific intelligence of presence of a militant in the area of Hatwar, Awantipur, in Pulwama a joint specific operation was launched on Monday by 50 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF.
During the operation the mastermind of the *Sunjawan militant attack* and *Lethapore  attack* JeM operational commander *Mufti Waqas*, Cat A++, has been eliminated in a surgical operation.
There have been no Civilian casualties or Collateral Damage. This has resulted in a major dent to the designs of JeM as after elimination of their earlier operational commander Noor Mohd Tantrey  in the same area in December 17 last year, his successor too has been killed. UNI

Srinagar, Jan 15: Five Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) infiltrators were killed by alert troops near the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Monday, a defence ministry spokesman said.
The operation was on when the reports last came in, Col Rajesh Kalia told.
He said troops guarding the LoC noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan- occupied-Kashmir (PoK) early this morning under the cover of darkness. However, when challenged, the infiltrators opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons.
Security forces retaliated and in the initial gunfight, three militants were killed. Another was also gunned down.
According to Col Kalia, fresh reports have been received about another infiltrator being killed. Large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.
Additional troops have been rushed from nearby camps to launch a massive search operation in the dense woods.
A large number of trained militants are waiting in launch pads on LoC in PoK to sneak into this side for terror activities in the valley. However, troops are already on high alert, conducting foot and night patrolling to foil any infiltration attempt from PoK.
Chief of the Army Staff (CASO) General Bipin Rawat had recently said that “Operation All Out (OAO)” which was launched in south Kashmir will be shifted to North Kashmir in 2018.
Over 200 militants, including some top commanders of different militant outfits, were killed, including during OAO in south Kashmir last year. UNI

Shops and business establishments are open and traffic is also plying on all routes normally. Work in government offices, banks and tuition and coaching centres was also normal.
However, additional security forces and state police personnel remained deployed in main town and tehsil headquarters to prevent any untoward incident. Security forces remained deployed at Pampore and Awantipora to prevent stone pelting on the highway. UNI

Shops and business establishments remained closed in the district, including main town Pulwama, Tral and Awantipora however life returned normal in Pampore town after remain affected for three day though there was no strike call from any organization.
Reports of complete shutdown have also been received from Awantipora, Tral besides other areas in the district. Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads. Work in government offices and banks was also affected due to strike.

Srinagar, Jan 1: With the killing of third fidayeen of Jaish-e-Mohammad (Jem), the over 36-hour-long encounter has ended in south Kashmir’s Pulwama, where five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were martyred and three others were wounded.
Director General of Police S P Vaid said the third militant, who was holed up in CRPF camp at Lethopora, Pulwama, has been killed on Monday and the operation is over.
Taking to the micro blogging site twitter, Dr Vaid said, 'Finally the operation has concluded with the recovery of body of the third terrorist.'
Official sources told UNI that the operation was stopped late last night though security forces remained deployed in the entire area to foil any attempt by militants to escape.
'We heard intermittent firing from the area during the night, local residents said, adding security forces have sealed all roads leading to CRPF camp at Lethpora, Pulwama.
Sources said the operation was stopped late last night to avoid further casualties. However, with first light on Monday morning security forces resumed the operation. Security forces killed the third militant who was holed up in the camp.
The operation was declared closed after security forces conducted thorough search in the entire camp, they said.
The encounter ensued after a group of militants stormed into 185 battalion CRPF camp at Lethpora in Pulwama in the wee hours of Sunday. Militants of JeM hurled grenades and resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons on the sentry at main gate, leading to encounter.
Five CRPF personnel, including an Inspector, were martyred and three others were injured. Two local militants were also killed in the encounter. Bodies of both the militants have been recovered.
The authorities have suspended internet service in Pulwama besides train service between Badgam-Srinagar to Banihal in Jammu region via south Kashmir has been suspended for security reasons. UNI

Srinagar, Jan 1: Train services have been suspended on the first day of the year for security reasons in south Kashmir, where five CRPF personnel and two local Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants were killed in a fierce encounter in Pulwama on Sunday.
However, trains will chug between Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north, a railway official told UNI on Monday.
He said an advisory was received from police on Sunday night to suspend all train running between Badgam-Srinagar in central Kashmir to Anantnag and Qazigund in south and Banihal in Jammu region.
Therefore, no train will run on this route for security reasons, he added. 
"We see a heavy rush of passengers on Monday when people are resuming their duties or business after availing Sunday holiday", he said. 
Large number of passengers who had arrived at different railway station in south Kashmir were very disappointed after the were informed that train services have been suspended.
Train services on 137 km Baramulla in north Kashmir to Banihal in region was suspended 51 times partially or fully in the Kashmir valley during 2017, causing a loss of over 1.50 crore to railways.
However, during 2016 summer train services remained suspended for about six months in the valley.
In February and March last year, the rail service was suspended due to strike calls. But in April a four-day suspension was due to parliamentary elections in two constituencies of Kashmir. 
However, it is the passengers who suffer the most due to suspension of the train services which has become very popular as it is being considered safe, cheap and fast as compare to other mode of transport.
The Srinagar-Banihal route remained busiest in terms of number of commuters but the most volatile areas fall in south Kashmir forcing authorities to suspend services on this route. UNI

Srinagar, Jan 1: With the first light this morning security forces have resumed operation in South Kashmir district of Pulwama, where five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were martyred and three others were injured in a fidayeen attack by Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants on their camp in the wee hours of Sunday.
Two JeM local militants were also killed in the encounter while one or two are still hiding in one of the building in the camp, official sources told UNI on Monday.
They said the operation was stopped late last night though security forces remained deployed in the entire area to foil any attempt by militants to escape.
We heard intermittent firing from the area during the night, local residents said adding security forces have sealed all roads leading to CRPF camp at Lethpora, Pulwama.
Sources said the operation was stopped late last night to avoid further casualities. However, with first light this morning security forces resumed the operation. Security forces are now searching the area from where the militants were firing, they said adding further details are awaited.

Srinagar, Dec 26: A top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) was killed and a jawan of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police was injured in a fierce encounter on Tuesday in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official sources said.
About eight-hour-long operation ended as other holed-up militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness, sources told UNI. 
Train and internet services has been suspended for security reasons in south Kashmir, where situation is tense though under control.
Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid said a tip-off was received that a group of two to three militants were planning to attack security force convoy on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir district of Pulwama. He said Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and CRPF launched a joint search operation at village Samboora, Awantipora, late last night at 0030 hrs. 
However, when the security forces were moving towards particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons. Security forces also retaliate, ensuing a fierce encounter.
Dr Vaid, taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, said “"Encounter going on since last evening in Awantipura district. There was input about presence of 2/3 terrorists near NHW planning to attack convoy. Body of a terrorist recovered so far, search for others going on".
However, sources said the encounter has ended after the house from where militants were firing was blasted by the security forces. Only one body of a militant has been recovered, they said, adding that it is believed other militants had managed to escape under the cover of darkness. 
The slain militant was identified as Noor Mohammad Tantray, most wanted a top commander of JeM, who was involved in several militancy-related incidents.
Additional security forces and police personnel had been deployed on the national highway to prevent any stone pelting incident, particular at Awantipora and Pampore. UNI

Srinagar, Nov 30: An fierce encounter was on between militants holed up in a house and security forces since early Thursday morning in the central Kashmir district of Badgam, where authorities have suspended internet service.
A teenager was reportedly injured in the area. However, it was not immediately known if he was hit by a bullet during encounter or in demonstration.
Official sources said that on a tip-off about the presence of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants, Army, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir and CRPF launched a joint search operation in a village Fatlipora, Pakherpora in Charar-e-Sharief in Badgam district this morning.
However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants hiding there resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, they said, adding that security forces also retaliated, ensuing an encounter.
They said the residents in the area, where the encounter was going on, have been shifted to safe places.
Sources said that it is believed three foreign and one local militants of JeM are trapped in the area. 
Meanwhile, people at Dalwan and Pakherpora hit the streets and pelted stones on security forces and police personnel deployed to prevent demonstrators from moving towards the encounter site. Security forces also used force to disperse the demonstrators. Naka checking have been established on roads from Pulwama and all vehicles are being searched properly.
The internet service all all Cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has been suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent any spread of rumours on the social network. UNI

A soldier also was martyred, while a civilian injured in the exchange of fire on Monday night. One of the slain militants identified as Talha Rasheed, is nephew of JeM Pakistan-based chief Moulana Masood Azhar, mastermind of Pathankot terror attack.  Shops and business establishments reopened and traffic was plying on all roads normally in Pulwama.  Work in government offices and banks was also normal and educational institutions also recorded maximum attendance. However, additional security forces remained deployed in Pulwama and other main towns besides on Srinagar-Jammu national highway to prevent any law and order problem. Three militants identified as Mohammad Bhai, divisional commander, Talha Rasheed and Waseem Bhai were killed in the encounter at Aglar Kandi in Pulwama. A number of cabs and private vehicles were seen plying. However, train services in the valley, including Srinagar-to Banihal in Jammu region via south Kashmir, was operating normally. This is for the first time that trains continued to chug in south Kashmir despite three militants being killed. Work in government offices and banks was also affected. Majority educational institutions also remained closed or recorded very less attendance as a precautionary measure. However, life remained normal elsewhere in the south Kashmir, where business and other activities were going on smoothly and traffic was plying on all routes.
Additional security forces also remained deployed in Pulwama and other main towns besides on Srinagar-Jammu national highway to prevent any law and order problem. Srinagar, Nov 7: Thanking Pakistan for owning up a militant killed during an encounter in south Kashmir, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Muneer Khan said on Tuesday Pakistan will be asked to claim the body of Talha Rasheed, nephew of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) Pakistan based chief Moulana Masood Azhar.
I’m thankful that for the first time Pakistan has owned a militant killed in Kashmir in an encounter on Monday. He is the nephew of Moulana Azhar. It has already been confirmed by JeM spokesperson to local media,' said Mr Khan, while addressing a press conference where he was flanked by GOC Victor Force Major General B S Raju and IG CRPF Ravideep Singh Shahi here.He said now 'we will take up the matter through proper channel and request Pakistan to please claim the body of the slain militant.' They (JeM) have confirmed that the killed militant is a Pakistani national, he added. Giving details about the encounter, Major General Raju said three JeM militants were killed in a swift joint operation by Army, police and CRPF. “Three JeM militants were killed in the encounter,” he said. “One of the slain militants was Wasim Ahmad Gania. Ganai was a local recruit and a category C militant. He was the main person supporting and guiding the JeM militants who were killed alongwith him,” he said. GOC Victor Force said the prize catch of this operation were the two A++ category militants. “Talha Rasheed, nephew of JeM Pakistan based chief Moulana Masood Azhar. It has been admitted by the JeM,” Maj Gen Raju said. He said the third militant killed was Mehmood Bhai, again from A++category. “Mehmood is the divisional commander of JeM and an important catch,” he added. The Jammu and Kashmir police had in the past also approached the Pakistan High Commission via the Union Home Ministry to take the body of Abu Dujana, the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) 'commander' gunned down in south Kashmir in August this year. Dujana was later buried in a graveyard in north Kashmir district of Baramulla after there was no response from Pakistan. UNI

Majority educational institutions also remained closed or recorded very less attendance. However, life remained normal elsewhere in the south Kashmir, where business and other activities were going on smoothly and traffic was plying on all routes. Additional security forces had been deployed in Pulwama and other main towns besides on Srinagar-Jammu national highway to prevent any law and order problem. Three militants identified as Mohammad Bhai, divisional commander, Talha Rasheed and Waseem Bhai were killed in an encounter at Aglar Kandi in Pulwama on Monday night. Srinagar, Nov 4: Train service has been suspended on Saturday after remaining suspended for security reasons yesterday in south Kashmir, where a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant and two Army personnel were killed in a fierce encounter late last Thursday night.
However, trains continued to chug on Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir as per schedule on Friday, a senior railway official told.
He said all train runs between Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region were suspended on Friday for security reasons. Today all trains are running as per schedule in the valley, he said.
"We have no role in suspending and resuming train service in the valley," he said adding we are acting as per advisory received from police.
He said trains operating in the valley are witnessing heavy rush particularly on Saturday and Monday. 
Last month the train service was suspended on several days for security reasons, particularly when there was strike call by separatists.
Rail service has become very popular in the valley, which is being considered very cheap, safe and fast against other mode of transport service. UNI
