They said troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from PoK at Jumagund in Kupwara on Thursday night under the cover of darkness. However, when challenged, the militants opened fire, which was retaliated.
The militants escaped, they said, adding that a massive search operation has been launched in the woods. It was not immediately clear whether the militants fled back to PoK, they added.
A large number of trained militants are waiting at launch pads to sneak into this side as the snow on the upper reaches had started melting. However, security forces are already on high alert to foil any attempt by militants to enter into this side. UNI
