Lucknow, Apr 11: BJP president Amit Shah on Wednesday paid tributes to Dalit icon Jyoti-ba-Phule on his birth anniversary.
Mr Shah, who reached Lucknow airport at around 1225 hrs to a rousing welcome, went straight to Samatamulak chowk to pay floral tributes to the Dalit icon. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his two deputies-- Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma-- along with other ministers too joined them in offering their tributes.
The sudden visit of Shah to offer his tribute to the Dalit icon is being seen as a counter tacit against the BJP Dalit MPs, who have launched a tirade against the party and the government.
Later, Mr Shah reached the official residence of the CM where he will meet the party leaders and the state ministers to take them on task for the recent criticism of the government by the opposition.
This will be the first visit of the BJP president to UP after the party's debacle in the Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha bypolls.
The BJP president is also likely to give his final nod on the possible expansion of the state ministry besides selecting the names for the legislative council seats. The BJP is set to win 11 of the 13 council seats for which April 16 is the last date for filing of the nomination papers. UNI
