Guwahati, Apr 21: The
much-delayed expansion of the BJP-led coalition government’s ministry in Assam
is expected shortly, state Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma has hinted.
“The people of Assam will get a good news in a day or two,” Dr Sharma told reporters at New Delhi yesterday, after accompanying CM Sarbananda Sonowal to a meeting with BJP national president Amit Shah.
Sonowal refused to make any comment after the meeting though speculations are rife that Shah has given the approval for ministry expansion.
Sources here said the names of new ministers will be announced after Sonowal’s return to Guwahati and the swearing-in will take place later this month itself.
The BJP-led government in the state will be completing two years in power in May and the expansion is likely to take place before the second anniversary.
The current ministry has a strength of 11 members, including the chief minister, out of total 18 berths. UNI
