Kolkata, Apr 4: Amid reports of violence over filing of nominations for Panchayet polls across
West Bengal for past three days, state chief electoral officer Amarendra Kumar
Singh today called on Governor KN Tripathi to apprise him of the EC's steps
even as the BJP's legal cell moved the Apex Court seeking a directive for
holding peaceful poll process.
Meanwhile, hundreds of BJP activists, headed by Mukul Roy,
today staged a protest demonstration in front of the State Election office at
Shakespeare Sarani condemning the alleged attacks on their party nominees
during filing of nomination papers by the ruling TMC in almost all parts of the
state. The protest demonstration also demanded the STO to ensure conducive
atmosphere so that the opposition parties' nominees can file nomination papers
freely.
BJP president Dilip Ghosh said the party's legal cell has already moved the Supreme Court to file two petitions to ensure - peaceful polling process like filing of nomination papers and peaceful voting rights for the common people for May 1, 3 and 5.

The opposition parties, including the BJP, had demanded deployment of central forces for the peaceful polling, which the state government rejected. UNI
