Chennai, Apr 4: In a bid to mount pressure on the Centre to set up the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) and the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee (CWRC), agitations and protest demonstrations
continued in Tamil Nadu for the fourth successive day on Wednesday.
The Opposition DMK, which has called for a state-wide bandh tomorrow, continued to stage rail and roko agitations across the state, leading to the arrest of scores of its party cadres across the state.
In Chennai, DMK MLAs B Ranganathan, M Subramanian and hundreds of DMK members were arrested for staging a road roko agitation.
The DMK cadres also attempted to block the Chennai Metro Rail at Koyambedu following which police arrested them.
DMK MLA J Anbazhagan, who is also the South Chennai district Secretary of the party, observed a fast in front of the State Guest House at Chepauk, along with his supporters on the Cauvery issue.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) workers resorted to a rail roko stir across the state following which police arrested them.
In a novel agitation, CPI(M) cadres staged a protest in the southern tip of Rameswaram by carrying earthern pots in their hands demanding immediate setting up of the CMB and the CWRC. 
As the Supreme Court deadline for setting up the CMB and the CWRC ended on March 29, the Tamil Nadu government has filed a contempt petition against the Centre in the Apex Court and the Union Government 
too on its part, filed a clarification plea on the word 'Scheme' mentioned in its order, and has sought three months' time to implement the order citing the Karnataka Assembly poll.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters at the Airport, DMK Working President M K Stalin accused the Central and State governments of staging a drama on the Cauvery issue.
He said in line with the decisions taken at the all party meeting on April one, another all-party meeting would be convened by the DMK on Thursday to discuss and work out the the modalities of the week-long Cauvery Rights Retrieval rally to be launched from the delta districts on April seven.
Apart from the DMK, its allies the Congress, IUML and other friendly parties, including the MDMK, VCK and the left parties would participate in the rally that would culminate in front of the Raj Bhavan here. UNI
