Gold Coast, Apr 12: Indian wrestler Rahul Aware won first gold in 57kg freestyle wrestling for
India in the 21st Commonwealth Games here.
Rahul, in the men's freestyle 57 kg match,
fought hard against Canada's Steven Takahashi and beat him by 15-7. This was
his first gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. Earlier, he had won gold in the
Commonwealth Championships.
The Indian wrestler made a huge comeback after losing 0-2 in the first round and scored 4-4 and then 6-4. In the second round, Takahashi showed a great deal of persistence and made the score again equal to 6-6. But Rahul again showed excellent control over Takahashi and took the score to 9-6 and 13-6 and in the end, playing the best bet, he finished at 15-7. UNI
