Guwahati, Apr 12: Commonwealth Games 400m finalist Hima Das has been offered a job by the Indian Railways, MoS for Railways Rajen Gohain said last evening.
The 18-year-old athlete, who hails from a remote village in Dhing under Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in central Assam, clocked her personal best of 51.32 seconds to finish sixth at the finals yesterday.
Talking to reporters yesterday, Gohain said, “Hima was offered a grade C job when she had qualified for the CWG. I had enquired yesterday (on April 10) after the progress of her application, and I was informed that the appointment letter was signed just yesterday.”
“She will be able to join her duty in April-end,” he added.
The Union minister, from whose constituency Hima hails, said the Railways will encourage her to pursue her sport and with age on her side, he hoped that she will be able to attain greater heights. UNI
