New Delhi, Apr 6: Five Lok Sabha Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) MPs resigned on
Friday to protest Centre's failure to grant Special Category Status (SCS) to
Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh lawmakers YV Subba Reddy(Ongole), Mekapati
Rajamohan Reddy(Nellore), YS Avinash Reddy(Kadapa), V Varaprasadarao
Velagapalli (Tirupati)and Midhun Reddy (Rajampet) submitted their resignation
letters to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
The letter carried only one line: "I hereby tender my resignation of my Lok Sabha seat in the House with immediate effect.”
YSRCP MPs will go on an indefinite hunger strike at AP Bhawan here, said party chief Jagan Mohan Reddy tweeted. 'We will observe relay hunger strikes across the state. We continue to stand in solidarity with the people of AP in their fight for Special Category Status!' he said.
In another tweet, Mr Reddy said 'We do as we say! YSRCP MPs are submitting their resignations today.'
He also challenged Chief Minister and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu to make his party MPs resign and 'stand united with the people of the state in their rightful demand of special category status for Andhra Pradesh'.
The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were adjourned sine die on Friday.
The YSRCP move comes after growing bitterness between the parties in Andhra Pradesh and the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre.
Both the YSRCP and Telugu Desam Party, which pulled out of the NDA on March 16, moved no-trust motions against the government over its refusal to accord Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh as committed to it at the time of the state's bifurcation in 2014. UNI
