New Delhi, Apr 5: A day after MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the National Democratic
Alliance announced they will give up their salaries and allowances of 23 days
in the second leg of the Parliament's Budget session, Parliamentary Affairs
Minister Ananth Kumar on Thursday hoped that the Congress and other Opposition
parties will also think about the same.
Mr Kumar told reporters in the Parliament premises here that
BJP and the constituents of the NDA have presented an example in the
parliamentary history of the country by making a self-imposed decision of 'no
work and no salary'.
'We're ready and waiting to talk about no-confidence motion, Cauvery issue and others. Congress should tell us why did they take it to the Well of the House and not let it function when we've been ready to discuss all issues?
'We've presented a model of no work no pay,' he said.
Mr Kumar said all the parties of the NDA have unanimously taken the decision. He hoped that the Congress and other opposition parties would also think about this, adding that if they do not think, then the public will force them to do the same.
Mr Kumar said that earlier, under the leadership of senior BJP leader LK Advani, once MPs had decided not to accept the allowance, but the decision of not taking both -- the salary and the allowance -- has been taken for the first time.
Blaming the Congress once more for not allowing Parliament to run, Mr Kumar said,'The Congress is doing negative politics of intolerance and working against democracy. The Congress is creating an impasse in both the Houses and doing 'drama' by protesting in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue.
"We condemn this politics of Congress,' he said.
Both the Houses of Parliament have failed to transact any major business since the beginning of the second part of the Budget session of Parliament on March 5.
The session concludes on Friday. UNI
