New Delhi, Apr 5: Knocking the doors of the Supreme Court, Bengal state Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday accused the ruling Trinamool Congress activists of prevention of party candidates from filing nominations for the upcoming Panchayat elections in the state.
A bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, decided to hear the Bengal state BJP's petition on Friday.
The three-judge bench of the Apex Court ruled ,"We will hear the plea filed by the WB state BJP, tomorrow in the matter," Last date for filing of nominations for the upcoming Panchayat elections in the state is April 9.
Appearing for the WB State BJP, advocate Aishwarya Bhati mentioned before the Apex Court that the BJP candidates and workers are allegedly being threatened, intimidated and subjected to physical violence to deter them from filing nominations for the upcoming state Panchayat elections.
Bhati added a BJP Dalit leader has been allegedly murdered by certain AITC workers and it seemed that there is a systematic physical violence unleashed by the ruling party to prevent filing of nominations by the BJP candidates. UNI
