Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Finance,
Planning, Law & Justice, Ajay Nanda, today inaugurated one day Kisan
Sammelen (Kisan Kalayan Karyashala) organized by the Department of Agriculture
in collaboration with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir
University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J), Department
of Horticulture and other line departments.
Over 270 farmers
including women, Government officers and private companies participated in the
programme which was aimed at to aware the farmers about the strategies to
double their income by 2022 as envisioned by the Prime MInister.
SDM, Katra,
Neelam Khajuria, officers besides farmers and locals were present on the
occasion.
Ajay Nanda asked
the participants to adopt the new and innovative agricultural technologies so
that they can enhance their income. He suggested the farmers to take benefit of
the central and state sponsored schemes launched by the Government.
Chief Agriculture
Officer, Omkar Singh, stressed on the agri-entrepreneurship and said that by
the agri-entreprenships farmers can raise their socio-economic status. He said
that farmers should adopt the refined agricultural technologies to increase
their crop production.
Dr.Banarsi
Lal, Scientist & Head of the KVK said that hilly areas have immense
potential in organic farming and by adopting the eco-friendly agricultural
technologies farmers can increase their income. He said that organic farming
can help for the sustainable agricultural development. He emphasized on the
value addition in different fruit and vegetables crops by which the farmers can
double their farm income. He talked in length about the area specific varieties
and urged farmers to use only the recommended varieties by the SKUAST-J.
Romesh Khosa,
Deputy Director ATMA, stressed on the commercial farming by which farmers can
enhance their income and employment.
SDAO, Reasi
Rajesh Verma created awareness on Pardhan Mantri Fasal BimaYojana, Pardhan
Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, Soil Health Card Scheme and various other
agricultural schemes launched by the Government for the farmers.
During the
programme, extension literature was also distributed among the farmers.
The Minister also
visited the stalls exhibited by different departments and interacted with the
officers.
During the programme, progressive farmers awards and crops mini-kits
were also distributed among the farmers. The publication of Department of
Agriculture was also released by the Minister.
