Smriti Irani holds public meetings at Reasi


Reasi, Jan 19 :  Union Minister for Textiles and Women & Child Development, Smriti Irani today conducted public meetings at village Moori of Dheeti Panchayat and at Spritual Growth Centre here today.

Addressing a huge crowd near Middle School Moori, Smriti Irani congratulated the locals for participating in huge numbers in parliamentary as well as Urban Local Bodies elections in the recent past. She also congratulated the administration for successfully conducting the elections.

The Union Minister also passed directions for on-spot resolution of several demands raised at the occasion which were readily accepted by the district administration. A steel foot bridge over Junnie Nallah was also inaugurated by the minister at the occasion earlier in the day.

At another public meeting at Katra, the Union Minister met with elected members of Katra Municipal Committee, Panchs-Sarpanchs of block Katra, prominent citizens and a large number of students among locals. She also inaugurated road from Paroh-Arli and Kadmal-Dhanna roads through e-inauguration.

In her welcome address, the DC said that Reasi has a huge potential for organic farming and progressive farmers are already taking up cultivation of lemongrass, a highly profitable cash crop. Block Development Council chairpersons and sarpanchs of blocks Pintail and Katra also welcomed the Union Minister and raised development issues.

In a response to public demand for opening a textile unit in the district, the Union Minister assured that a suitable unit would be set up immediately after a formal request by the district administration.

Counting achievements of the central government, Smriti said that more than 8 lakh farmers are being benefitted under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi. Similarly, around 24 thousand saffron growers have benefitted under National Saffron Mission till date in J&K. She said that under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, more than 12 lakh gas cylinders have been distributed to poor households of the Union Territory.

It was also told by the Union Minister that 3.5 lakh cards have been distributed, of over 11 lakh identified, under the ambitious Ayushman Bharat Yojana through which 50 thousand residents of the UT have already benefitted. She also told that more than 140 district and sub-district level hospital projects have been identified for up-gradation in Jammu & Kashmir in addition to the two upcoming AIIMS with an allocated budget of Rs 2 thousand crore.

Appreciating the enthusiasm of people of J&K towards Panchayati Raj and other democratic institutions, Smriti said that with dialogue and participation of people, all things are possible. ‘A new wave of development has just begun’, she added.

Jammu, Oct 15 (PTI) A 55-year-old man died after falling from a hillock in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Monday. 


Dhani Ram, a resident of Gari village, was found dead in Thakrakote area of the district, a police spokesman said. 

He said preliminary investigation found that the deceased slipped while heading for his residence on Sunday evening.

REASI, SEPTEMBER 20: Training programme on “EDP for PMEGEP beneficiaries” conducted by State Bank of India Rural Self Employment Training Institute (SBI-RSETI) concluded here today.
A total of 28 trainees hailing from Arnass, Garhi, Mahore, Dharmari ,Talwara, Sujandhar and Reasi participated in the 10-day long residential  training  programme and learnt about entrepreneur development skills.     
At the valedictory function, Functional Manger DIC, Virender Kumar interacted with the trainees and distributed the certificates amongst them.
 Speaking on the occasion, Director SBIRSETI, Mukesh Kumar Bansal impressed upon the trainees to act as ambassadors of RSETI and further informed about the start of new batches in Electrican, Plumber, Womens  Tailor and alike.
B K Sharma (LDM, Reasi) and Bansi Lal Kotwal  (FLC, Reasi) were also present on the occasion.

REASI SEPTEMBER 18: Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Prasanna Ramaswamy G today reviewed preparedness for Urban Local Body polls here at a   meeting attended by the officers entrusted with the election duties.
 The DC briefed Returning Officers (RO)s and Assistant Returning Officers (ARO)s regarding their responsibilities. He instructed them to religiously go through the election Hand Book   to get thorough idea of the poll process.
“Stay immune to external influences and notorious elements bent on derailing the smooth conduct of elections” the DC Prasanna asserted and answered queries of the ROs and AROs regarding certain procedures.
The elections to two Municipal Committees—MC Reasi and MC Katra of district Reasi will be conducted in phase-II of the Municipal Elections 2018. The voting will be held on October 10 while the counting of votes will be done on October 20.

REASI, SEPTEMBER 17: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) concluded four day long vocational training programme on “Entrepreneurship development in organic vegetables growing” here today at village Talwara (Zero More).
The training programme was conducted under the guidance and supervision of Associate Director Extension (ADE) and I/C KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr. R.K. Arora. Large number of tribal rural youths/farmers/farm women of the village enthuatically participated in the programme and various technical sessions were organised on scientific organic vegetables growing in the hilly areas.
Dr. Banarsi Lal, Incharge, KVK, Reasi initiated programme by welcoming the trainees. He gave a detailed view on entrepreneurship development in vegetables growing and said the farmers that the hilly areas have immense potential in organic vegetables growing. He guided the farmers for the scientific commercial vegetables growing and narrated that by growing organic vegetables in a scientific way they are able to generate more income and employment.
He elaborated the scientific guidelines for winter’s vegetables growing specially the roots and cole crops. He stressed on the quality seed and scientific cultural operations for the commercial vegetables growing. He educated the trainees on the advantages of protected cultivation to produce the vegetables of high quality and yields even in the off-season when the prices are high in the market. He emphasised on use of vermicompost, biofertilizers and organic fungicides and organic pesticides in vegetables. He demonstrated the nursery raising techniques in vegetables. He also educated the farmers on proper spacing and requirement of irrigation in the vegetables.  He gave a detail view of organic methods for the disease and insect-pests management in the vegetables. He also guided the trainees on micro-irrigation and soil and water testing in the vegetable’s fields.
 He educated the farmers on Farmers Producers Organizations (FPOs) to market their organic vegetables. The scientist also suggested the farmers that they should use only the well decomposed manures in their vegetables fields so that they can get the healthy crop and keep their soil healthy. The scientist spoke on value addition in vegetables and suggested the farmers they can earn more money by the value addition of vegetables. In this programme extension literature on scientific vegetables cultivation was also distributed among the farmers. High quality seeds on winter vegetables were also provided to the farmers.  In this training programme many quarries were raised by the farmers which KVK scientist answered in a very satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted Manhor Lal and concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with the vote of thanks.

REASI, SEPTEMBER 17: To mark the Engineers’ Day, a   blood donation camp was organized by the Chenab Bridge Undertaking. The camp was organized here at the world’s highest railway bridge project.
The camp was conducted in collaboration with Blood Transfusion Department, GMC Jammu; J&K AIDS Control Society, Jammu and IRCS at village Kouri in the district. Around 70 units of blood were collected for the benefit of the ailing humanity.
The camp was inaugurated by Jayanta Dutta, Grinder Man of CBPU, Afcons Infrastructure Limited and coordinated by Deep Chandra Bhatt, AGM Personnel & Administration).

REASI, SEPTEMBER 15: In continuance with Prime Miniter’s 'Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement, Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Prasanna Ramaswamy G today launched the movement here at Reasi. The launching ceremony began with an oath ceremony wherein the DC along with district officials as well as the locals pledged to make the Swachhata mission successful.
After the oath-taking, all district officials took part in the cleanliness drive starting from the DC office.
The DC urged that the drive should not be limited to the day but round the year.
Those present at the event also included ADDC, Ramesh Chander, Assistant Commissioner Development, M.Y Malik; Chief Planning Officer, Harbans Sharma; Chief Medical Officer, Parminder Singh among others.

REASI, SEPTEMBER 14: Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Prasanna Ramaswamy G today conducted a meeting to take stock of upcoming sports events in the district to be conducted under ‘Khelo-India’ initiative.
The meeting was held to finalize the preparation for trials and pre-trials to be conducted in various blocks of the district from where the chosen talent will be further trained under the ‘Khelo-India’ programme.
The meeting was further informed that under the ‘Khelo-India’ initiative, Rs 40 lakh have been sanctioned for the district, with each tehsil- Reasi, Pouni, Mahore and Arnas- getting an equal share of Rs 10 lakh.
The sports coordinators briefed the DC about the selected venues for the events. The DC assured his full cooperation to the team of coordinators and also asked them to document every step being taken for talent identification.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Commandant, Birbal Mahey from CISF, SDM Dharmari, Sushil Kesar and other concerned.

Jammu, Sep 11 : An 11-year-old girl was killed after a leopard attacked her in Reasi district, police said Tuesday.

The incident occurred Monday when Nageena Akhter was taking a walk near her house in Jamlan hills in Mahore tehsil and the leopard attacked her, the police said.

The body of the girl was later recovered by officials, they added.

REASI, SEPTEMBER 06: Additional District Development Commissioner, Reasi, Ramesh Chander today called a meeting in view of the ongoing Rashtriya Poshan Maah (National Nutrition Month) here at the DC office.
Chief Planning Officer, Harbans Lal Sharma, Child Development Project Officer Arnas, Ramesh Chander, Ravish Singh Rana, mobilisers of SRLM (UMEED) and concerned officers attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed several issues pertaining to the professionals registered under the State Rural Livelihood Mission (UMEED) and other ground workers. Success stories of these professionals were also shared during the meeting.
It was informed that every week of the POSHAN month was given a theme including Monitoring Growth of Children, Education of Mothers, Greenery and Cleanliness of Anganwadi Centres and Nutrition for All.
The meeting was concluded with an oath ceremony, officiated by the ADDC, in which everybody pledged to make POSHAN Abhiyaan a success.

REASI, AUGUST 30: Acting on complaint of financial mismanagement, the District Development Commissioner Reasi, Prasanna Ramaswamy G, today placed MK Vikram, I/C Executive Engineer, PWD, Division Mahore under suspension.
Meanwhile, the DDC has ordered a departmental enquiry into the matter shall be conducted by Superintendent Engineer, PWD, Udhampur-Reasi circle.
“The matter was brought to the notice of DDC by Sub Divisional Manager, Mahore and the information is buttressed by the outcome of an enquiry conducted by a team of engineers into the matter headed by the Executive Engineer PMGSY, Mahore Division” a district admin spokesperson said.
The matter pertains to construction of a 50-bedded Gujjar-Bakerwal hostel in Mahore, the construction of which has been found to be sub-standard. Furthermore, allegedly, instead of penalising the contractor involved, the Executive Engineer apparently rewarded him with further payments up to Rs 20 lakh, which is reportedly much more than what is due to him, he added.

REASI, AUGUST 30: In heartwarming turn of events, a homeless and mentally unstable man from Bihar was today reunited with his family with the efforts of district administration Reasi.
The man, Kishan Mukhiya, who hails from Madhubani, Bihar, had met with an accident in Delhi and got serious physical injuries as a result of which he lost his memory. He somehow found his way to Reasi where he was found in the streets by one Good Samaritan Puneet, a Railways employee, who reported the matter to Deputy Commissioner Reasi.
Thereafter the man was shifted to SMVD Narayana hospital and then to the Government Psychiatric Facility, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu. Due to the timely intervention of the district administration, which also saw active involvement of the Divisional Red Cross Society, the patient regained his consciousness and revealed his whereabouts.
Now Kishan has been reunited with his family and his physical condition has also improved.

REASI, AUGUST 30: The District administration Reasi is soon going to conduct physical verification of Individual Household Latrines (IHHL) constructed under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
 Chairing a meeting here today, the Additional District Development Commissioner Ramesh Chander formed committees to conduct the verification. 
The ADDC instructed the committees to conduct physical verification of   at least a quarter of the total units and that too on random basis to see that IHHL units are actually constructed and are being used by the inmates. The ADDC also highlighted the relevance of this exercise with respect to the goal of declaring district Reasi as Open Defecation Free (ODF).
The committee members were advised to submit their reports by the   September 10, 2018, so that further necessary action for declaring   Reasi ODF is   taken.

REASI, AUGUST 30: Deputy Commissioner Prasanna Ramaswamy G today called for massive youth mobilization under Khelo India campaign.
 Chairing a meeting, he sought inputs from expert sportspersons regarding enlisting of talented youth from every corner of the district.
 He said the potential talent will be further trained under the centrally sponsored Khelo India scheme.
In the meeting, a tentative list of sports was also prepared under which the talent would be spotted. The list includes Athletics, Wrestling, Kabaddi, Volleyball and Football among other sports.
A detailed discussion was held on spreading awareness about the talent spotting activities to be held at various block levels in the district. The DC emphasized on use of both traditional as well as latest modes of information dissemination to reach out the masses.
Those present at the meeting included Commandant Ravi Kala from CRPF, Asstt. Commandant Birbal Mahey from CISF, ACD Reasi, MY Malik, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Dr SS Chib and others.
The Khelo India programme has been introduced by the central government to revive sports culture   at the grass-roots level.
Under the initiative, Rs 40 lakh has been sanctioned for the district, with each tehsil- Reasi, Pouni, Mahore and Arnas, getting an equal share of Rs 10 lakhs each.

REASI, AUGUST 16: The Sub-Committee constituted to expedite the consultation process for rehabilitation of mule owners operating between Katra and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji Shrine today held a meeting with the stakeholders under the Chairmanship of Advisor to Governor B B Vyas here at Katra.
 Advisor to Governor K Vijay Kumar and Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam were present in the meeting.
 The meeting was attended by Chief Executive Officer Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB)  Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Secretary Animal and Sheep Husbandry Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma,  Secretary Law, Justice  and Parliamentary Affairs Department Abdul Majid Bhat, Deputy Commissioner Reasi Prasanna Ramaswamy G, SSP Reasi Nisha Nathyal, Additional CEO SMVDSB Anshul Garg, Director Urban Local Bodies Jammu Rajinder Singh Tara, Additional Secretary H&UDD Narinder Khajuria, SDM Katra Neelam Khajuria, CEO Katra Development Authority Jagdish Mehra and senior functionaries of concerned departments.
The Committee re-started the consultation process with the representatives of State Government, SMVDSB and other stakeholders including mule owners and hoteliers at Katra to deliberate on the issue.
While apprising the committee, the CEO SMVDSB informed that 4230 mules have been registered and ear tagged by SPCA on the directions of the National Green Tribunal. Registration cards have also been provided to existing mule operators, he said.
He also informed that mule dung generated in the Banganga sector is being treated at the Biogas Plant at Banganga and the Bio gas generated is used for cooking purposes in Gulshan Langer. He further informed that mule dung generated at Adhkuwari, Sanjichhat, Bhawan and Bharon sectors is being shifted to composting site near Tarakote on a daily basis for conversion to organic manure through pit compositing. Gupta also briefed about the other measures undertaken by the Shrine Board to address other ecological concerns in the area.
Principal Secretary Animal and Sheep Husbandry also apprised the committee about the steps taken by the department to improve veterinary services including construction of hospital building for mules at Katra.
President and Chairman Hotel and Restaurant Association, Katra Rakesh Wazir and Sham Lal Kesar, President Mule Owners Association of Katra Sohan Singh, President Shopkeepers Association Shamsher Singh and its representative Manohar Singh were also present in the meeting.
All the stakeholders opined that any decision in this regard should take care of religious sanctity and sensitivity associated with the Yatra and also other matters like livelihood issues of mule operators, Solid Waste Management and environmental conservation.
The Sub-Committee shall take into consideration the suggestions and opinions of the various stakeholders and submit its recommendations in this regard.

REASI, AUGUST 07: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) today organised awareness programme on breastfeeding here at Dera Baba Banda Bahadur village.
The programme, organised under the guidance and co-operation of Associate Director Extension (ADE) and Incharge of KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr. R.K. Arora, witnessed   active participationof a large number of women of the area.
The major objective of the programme was to promote and support breastfeeding among the women for the improvement of the health of babies.
Scientist & Head of KVK, DrBanarsi Lal, in his welcome address, said that breastfeeding is the best way to provide required nutrients to the new born. He said that breast milk is highly nutritious which contains digestible proteins and natural immunities that protect the babies from various diseases. He further said that breastfeeding is beneficial for infants, mothers and the community and has the potential to reduce mortality and morbidity occurs during the infancy due to malnutrition. He said that breastfeeding safeguards the babies from jaundice, pneumonia, cholera, diarrhea, obesity, allergy etc. He educated the women on initiation of breastfeeding, physiology of lactation, bonding between mother and baby and nutritional value of breast milk.
Scientist Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, stated that  breast milk is the best food for the babies which not only provides the required nutrients and antibodies but also develops resistance in the baby against numerous diseases and infections. He stressed on the intake of leafy vegetables, pulses, mushroom and milk for the women.   
The   Headmistress of Govt. Middle School, Dera Baba Banda Bahadur, RuksanaKousar, school teachers, Anju Rani and Ashwani Kumar and   Nisha Devi from social welfare department were also present. The programme was assisted by Jagdish Kumar and Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal with vote of thanks.

REASI, JULY 31:  The District Administration Reasi has planted more than 5000 saplings of indigenous tree varieties in the forest land retrieved from encroachers here at Gun Kolsar area of Pouni Block.
The Forest land was retrieved by the Forest Department, and to prevent further encroachment, the Rural Development Department in convergence with the Forest Department fenced it and carried out the plantation drive.
District Magistrate Prasanna Ramaswamy G, ACD    Mohammad Yousaf Malik, DFO    Anwar Aftab Shah, Range Officer Thakrakote Nayeem Naik, BDO Pouni, Reasi, Panthal and Katra, Secretary Panchayat Kolsar participated in this drive.

REASI, JULY 31: District Development Commissioner, Prasanna Ramaswamy G today visited Kund Khanyari – the village being developed for the production of oranges and other varieties of citrus fruits.
The DDC took stock of the progress registered in the village and interacted with the villagers/farmers - the main stakeholders. The scheme envisages the development of orchards in the village with a total number of twenty thousand trees in a period of four years covering more than 125 acres of land.
The soil of this region has been found to be ideal for the growing of citrus fruits like oranges, lemons etc.
The DDC was accompanied by Chief Horticulture Officer V K Gupta, District Level SMS Ragunath Updhaya, HDO Pouni Varinder Kumar.

REASI, JULY 31: The Legal Metrology Department has charged Rs 24400 fine from 12 traders for unfair trade practices.
To check unfair trade practice, overcharging and other violations, the Enforcement team of Legal Metrology Department conducted extensive inspection of various Restaurants/eateries, dry fruits & Parshad shops, gift item shops and others business establishments here at holy town Katra and enroute to Shree Mata Vaishno Devi Ji bhawan.
The team imposed a fine of Rs 5000 each on a leading Restaurant, a Milk product shop and a Flour Mill based at Baribrahmana and Rs 2000 on a Gift house etc. for violation of various provisions of Weights and Measures Laws.
Traders were warned of stern legal action in case of any further indulgence in anti- consumer practices. They were further directed to use only verified Weights and Measures and to sell packaged commodity clearly mentioning MRP, Packing date, Net weight, complete address of manufacturer/packer along with consumer helpline no.
It is pertinent to mention here that during this month the department has booked 23 defaulters and realized fine of Rupees 48900.

REASI, JULY 31: Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Prasanna Ramaswamy G, today attended the certificate distribution ceremony organized by State Bank of India on the conclusion of thirty-day training programme conducted here at Rural Self Employment Training Institute.
After distributing certificates among 21 successful trainees, the DC expressed happiness and urged them to channelize their skills to acquire employment. He asked them to put in use the skills they have learnt during one-month training course to beat the unemployment.
The trainees were also assured sufficient financial support from banks and other bodies to help them establish their own business units.
Pertinently, SBI’s Rural Self Employment Training Institute regularly conducts training courses in the trades like computer operation, beauty parlor, tailoring, electrical fitting, plumbing etc. to help curb unemployment.
Others present on the occasion were Mukesh Bansal, Director of the institute, Anil Thakur, GM DIC, Adarsh Gupta, DDM NABARD and BK Sharma, LDM Reasi.
