MANILA, May 10: The Philippine economy
grew 6.8 percent in the first quarter from a year earlier, matching
expectations, driven by industry and services, the statistics agency said on
Thursday.
Economists polled by Reuters had predicted that gross domestic product
would grow 6.8 percent in the January-March period, after 6.5 percent expansion
the previous quarter.
Details on quarterly growth are due to be released later.
