JULY 31: The Legal Metrology Department has charged Rs
24400 fine from 12 traders for unfair trade practices.
To
check unfair trade practice, overcharging and other violations, the Enforcement
team of Legal Metrology Department conducted extensive inspection of various
Restaurants/eateries, dry fruits & Parshad shops, gift item shops and
others business establishments here at holy town Katra and enroute to Shree
Mata Vaishno Devi Ji bhawan.
The
team imposed a fine of Rs 5000 each on a leading Restaurant, a Milk product
shop and a Flour Mill based at Baribrahmana and Rs 2000 on a Gift house etc.
for violation of various provisions of Weights and Measures Laws.
Traders
were warned of stern legal action in case of any further indulgence in anti-
consumer practices. They were further directed to use only verified Weights and
Measures and to sell packaged commodity clearly mentioning MRP, Packing date,
Net weight, complete address of manufacturer/packer along with consumer
helpline no.
It is pertinent to mention here that during this month
the department has booked 23 defaulters and realized fine of Rupees 48900.
