SRINAGAR, JULY
12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday interacted
with the members of Self-Help Groups promoted by J&K State Rural
Livelihoods Mission (UMEED) under Deen Dayal Anthodia Yojana –National Rural
Livelihood Mission and the beneficiaries of Deen Dayal Upadhaya Gramin
Kaushaliya yojna through live Video Conference.
The Self-Help
Group apprised the Prime Minister about various activities being undertaken by
them under J&K State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UMEED) and how it has
impacted their lives.
The members
shared their experience and success stories on how being part of a self-help
group ushered in a positive change in their lives. The SHG members promoted
under J&K State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UMEED) shared their different
success stories and how the Mission is helping them to come out of the poverty.
“Our Government
is committed towards empowerment of women, today you take any sector, you will
see women working in large number and the country’s Agriculture and Dairy
sector cannot be imagined without the contribution of women”, said PM Modi
during interaction with SHG groups.
Praising these
SHGs, PM Modi said that “all of these women are example of determination and
entrepreneurship. He said, for women empowerment, the most important requirement
is to provide them the opportunity to recognize their own power, abilities and
skills. He further said that Self-help groups are playing a very important role
in rural areas of the country especially for small entrepreneurs and for
labourers
While as NRLM has
emerged as the largest institutional platform for women empowerment. The
Mission has now initiated implementation in 4884 blocks spread across 600
districts more than 5 crore women have been mobilized into 45 lakh
self-help groups in addition, 2.48 lakh village
organizations and 20,000 cluster level federations have also been promoted.
The mission has created dedicated sensitive support structures in all
the states. Every state now has a state rural livelihood Mission manned over by
20000 professionals at various levels providing training and capacity building
and long-term handholding support to the women’s organizations. Under J&K
State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UMEED) 70 blocks have been covered so far
across Jammu and Kashmir and more than 28000 Self-help groups have been formed
till date.
