BUDGAM, SEPTEMBER 15: Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar, today launched the fortnight ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ cleanliness and sanitation programme at Boys Higher Secondary School Budgam.
On the occasion, DC stressed on maintaining cleanliness not only in houses but at public places for the clean and hygienic environment.
The fortnight campaign, organized by Union Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation through Rural Development Department, would focus on cleanliness programmes, awareness generation regarding Swachhta to highlight the need for cleanliness in collaboration with higher education/school education departments and SHGs of UMEED.
The DC said that “we all must save our water bodies from getting polluted as our moral obligation not only to be safe from the water-borne diseases but also save them for the future generations.”
The DC also asserted on proper disposal of both bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste (plastic and polythene) and said separate dustbins should be used for the same.
Terming, public cooperation as a must for the success of the cleanliness mission, she urged students and SHGs to be part of the drive and take it to every household in their respective vicinities.
She said that major focus shall be given on cleaning of water bodies, parks, roads, schools, hospitals and colleges during the campaign.
The DC also directed all BDOs to identify landfill sites for the garbage disposal in all villages of the district for effective cleanliness and hygiene.
On the occasion, cleanliness kits which include dustbins and brooms were distributed among the members of SHGs.
The said campaign shall be conducted at district, block and panchayat levels simultaneously and shall culminate on October-2, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
The DDC instructed all officers that the focus should be given on mobilizing the local people through community participation in the cleanliness drives, besides generating mass awareness through the media.
Later, the DC headed cleanliness drive in which scores of SHGs and students participated and cleaned the premises of BHSS Budgam and its adjoining roads.
Among others, the drive was attended by ACD Budgam, DPO, BDO Budgam and Principal BHSS Budgam.

SRINAGAR, JULY 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday interacted with the members of Self-Help Groups promoted by J&K State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UMEED) under Deen Dayal Anthodia Yojana –National Rural Livelihood Mission and the beneficiaries of Deen Dayal Upadhaya Gramin Kaushaliya yojna through live Video Conference.
The Self-Help Group apprised the Prime Minister about various activities being undertaken by them under J&K State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UMEED) and how it has impacted their lives.
The members shared their experience and success stories on how being part of a self-help group ushered in a positive change in their lives. The SHG members promoted under J&K State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UMEED) shared their different success stories and how the Mission is helping them to come out of the poverty.
“Our Government is committed towards empowerment of women, today you take any sector, you will see women working in large number and the country’s Agriculture and Dairy sector cannot be imagined without the contribution of women”, said PM Modi during interaction with SHG groups.
Praising these SHGs, PM Modi said that “all of these women are example of determination and entrepreneurship. He said, for women empowerment, the most important requirement is to provide them the opportunity to recognize their own power, abilities and skills. He further said that Self-help groups are playing a very important role in rural areas of the country especially for small entrepreneurs and for labourers
While as NRLM has emerged as the largest institutional platform for women empowerment. The Mission has now initiated implementation in 4884 blocks spread across 600 districts more than 5 crore women have been mobilized into 45 lakh self-help groups in addition, 2.48 lakh village organizations and 20,000 cluster level federations have also been promoted.
The mission has created dedicated sensitive support structures in all the states. Every state now has a state rural livelihood Mission manned over by 20000 professionals at various levels providing training and capacity building and long-term handholding support to the women’s organizations. Under J&K State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UMEED) 70 blocks have been covered so far across Jammu and Kashmir and more than 28000 Self-help groups have been formed till date.

SRINAGAR, JULY 04: Secretary Rural Development Department & Panchayat Raj, Sheetal Nanda, today called for effective implementation of Umeed scheme under JK State Rural Livelihood Mission (JKSRLM) for the socio-economic uplift of women folk in rural areas.
She said this while reviewing the progress of JKSRLM (Umeed) project in the Kashmir province here today.
Mission Director JKSRLM Bakshi Javid Hamayun, Director Finance RDD &PR SL Pandita, Joint Director Planning RDD&PR Shabir Ahmad, Additional Mission Director Kashmir, Rifat Aftab Qureshi, Additional Mission Director Jammu, Pankaj Gupta, Senior Project Managers Umeed, Block Programme Managers and other officials were present in the meeting.
Secretary RDD said UMEED project is aimed at providing better livelihood facilities to the women especially in rural areas. She asked the officials to work on a mission mode to achieve the tangible results and fulfil the purpose of the programme, besides contributing towards the welfare of the society.
She directed the officials to ensure that project targets and objectives are executed efficiently so that the benefits of the same reach to the rural women. She asked the officers to ensure proper monitoring and execution of Umeed project and its components at district and block levels.
On the occasion, the meeting was informed that about 28512 Self Help Groups (SHGs) have been covered in 70 blocks of Umeed and that 30 additional blocks are being taken during the current fiscal.

SHOPIAN MAY 24:  J&K State Rural Livelihood Mission and UMEED today organized a workshop on SHG-Bank Linkage programme in collaboration with J&K Bank at RSETI Shopian here.
The aim of the workshop was to sensitize the bankers and the community for proper implementation of the programme and offer an opportunity for direct interaction between bankers and SHG members.
Programme Manager SRLM while speaking on the occasion presented an overview of activities, approach and achievements of UMEED, particularly in the area of financial inclusion. He said the mandate of SRLM is to reach out to 66 percent of rural population and link them to sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Cluster Head JK Bank who also spoke on the occasion said the J&K Bank is committed to walking an extra mile in efforts towards financial inclusion and empowerment of women.
Other bankers speaking on the occasion said SHG credit linkage is a social concern and a promising business proposition and assured of all kinds of possible assistance to the SHGs.

Asks womenfolk to avail benefit of self-employment schemes 


JAMMU, NOVEMBER 22- Minister for Rural Development Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice Abdul Haq on Wednesday stressed on the women to avail the benefit of various schemes  launched to uplift their socio economic condition.
Minister said was interacting with members of various Self Help Groups at a function organised by State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM) here at Dansal block. The meeting was attended by Additional Mission Director Kapil Sharma, BDO Dansal and other senior officers of the district.
While complimenting the SHG members for writing their success stories and contributing positively to their families, the Minister said that an empowered woman guarantees an empowered society. 
Listing the intervention schemes, the Minister said empowerment of women is imperative for the development of society adding that many schemes have been launched to make them self dependent. 
He said more possibilities would be explored to provide SHGs requisite market support and their products are sold across the country at good prices. He said Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, has flagged women’s welfare as a priority area and efforts are being made to achieve the targets in this regard.
Abdul Haq said the Umeed scheme has greatly helped the rural women to contribute in the family income and meet the expenses of the family thus making them self reliant as well as become socially, economically and politically relevant.
Exhorting upon the participants to avail the benefits envisaged under the mission and strive for their economic uplift, Haq Khan said   UMEED initiative has become a driving force for poverty alleviation in rural areas through capacity building and generating livelihood avenues. 
The Minister said that livelihood mission mainly focuses on women empowerment, providing them avenues through formation of self-help groups for which State Government is providing adequate financial support. ”Women are supported in different trades including handicraft production, cattle rearing, Weaving, Horticulture, agriculture, dairy farming, running provisional stores, poultry farming, saffron cultivation etc”.
Abdul Haq said the main aim was to reach out to all the poor families, link them to sustainable livelihoods opportunities and nurture them till they come out of poverty and enjoy a decent quality of life.
The Minister impressed upon the Self Help Groups to work with more zeal and dedication and avail the benefits of the state and centrally sponsored schemes.
Earlier, the Minister inaugurated a Milk Collection Centre at Gajarkotli in Dansal block. The collection centre is managed by the Self Help Groups of the district. The women involved in dairy farming collect the milk in the Milk Collection Centre which is fitted with a Bulk Milk Cooler.

 The Minister appreciated the efforts of the Self Help Groups for managing the Milk Collection Centres in the block and said that the dairy farming by SHGs have helped in increasing the production of milk in rural areas and increased the income of these households.

          UDHAMPUR OCTOBER 27: To provide direct linkage of different flagship programmes of government to the members of   Self Help Groups SHGs) of UMEED, a one day awareness cum sensitization program was organized under  Dean Dayal Upadaya Grameen Koshal Yojana at  UMEED Block Training Centre Chenani  in Udhampur District here  today.
           District Development Commissioner Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar was the chief guest while Additional Mission Director, JKSRLM (UMEED) Jammu, Kapil Sharma  presided over the function.
            Addressing the Community cadre of UMEED including leaders of SHGs Village Organisations, Cluster level federations, the DDC lauded the efforts of JKSRLM for providing sustainable livelihood for the poor women of the district.
            The DDC assured that all out efforts would be put in place by the District Administration to link all members of SHGs under UMEED with government sponsored schemes especially designed to raise their socio-economic status by converging number of programmes of different departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Sheep & Animal Husbandry, Social Welfare and fisheries.
Additional Mission Director JKSRLM assured the district authorities that the Mission shall strive to provide support to rural poor women. He informed that the project is being presently implemented in Three Blocks of Udhampur District and two more blocks are going to be taken up in the current financial year for implementing the programme.
JKSRLM has formed about 1207 Self Help Groups in the district which are federated to 125 Village organizations. Some Women have taken initiative in CMSA /Non pesticide management farming; currently 140 farmers are cultivating about 800 Kanal of land under CMSA.
District Project Manager JKSRLM, Dr. Jagdish Mehra conducted the proceedings of the programme.

Among others SDM Chenani, District heads of Agriculture, Horticulture , Animal Husbandary , Sheep Husbandry  Social Welfare and  Block Programme  Manager UMEED Chenani were present on the Occasion.

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 04: J&K State Rural Livelihoods Mission having mandate to reach out to all the poor families, link them to livelihoods opportunities and nurture them till they come out of poverty is implementing project in the state under the name “ UMEED”. The Mission aims to reduce poverty in the state by building strong grassroots institutions of the poor, engage them into gainful livelihoods interventions and ensure appreciable improvement in their income on a sustainable basis. In the year 2016, a new dairy based developmental initiative was started in J&K with active collaboration of J&K Milk Producers Co-operative Limited (JKMPCL).
          Under this initiative, it was envisioned to transform the Women Self Help Groups organized under JKSRLM into Women dairy Co-operative Societies having village level milk collection booths. In order to bring greater transparency and accountability in the system. Automatic Milk collection systems were installed at these newly organized societies. These Automatic Milk Collection Booths are owned and managed by members  of Self Help Groups (SHGs)  in a village. Each booth has an Automatic Milk Collection System (AMCS) which  includes  Personal Computer with milk procurement software, automatic FAT determination machine, weighing scale and UPS/battery, used for testing and maintenance of records.
The pilot project of this initiative  started from Block Basohli of district Kathua  in  April ,2016  and  accordingly SHG based automated milk collection booths were established. The pilot project  was successful and in December,2016, Chief Minister Ms. Mehbooba Mufti sanctioned 200  such systems for various blocks across the State.  206 nos. of ‘Automatic Milk Collection Booths’ in different village organizations(village level apex body of SHGs) across Jammu and Kashmir have been established so far.
 In Jammu Division, seventy nine  booths have been established in five districts & in six  blocks namely, Basohli, Gaghwal, Bishnah, Dansal ,Kalakote  & Marh .  The Self Help Groups  of these blocks  associated with the  project have  procured 3.95 lakh kgs of milk  from 1900 milk producers. Average daily milk procurement being reported  is 1870 Kgs per day.The SHGs have reported turnover of Rs 1.28 crores.
Further these booths have provided employment to more than 63 women members of SHGs as AMCS operators and 05 SHG members from different blocks have been recruited on JKMPCL pay roll as AMCS technicians for maintenance of these milk collection systems. With AMCS, milk producers are getting printed information on the quality of their milk, its rate and total amount on real time basis. The process facilitates transparency, accountability and reliability in the system which will further translate into more milk production and increased revenue generation for the members. So far, the initiatives have touched more than 2300 households across the Jammu Division.

Since the SHG members have invested institutional finance of Rs 49 crores in livestock sector, the marketing support from the JKMPCL has given fillip to the dairy activities. The Mission further plans to expand the outreach of the program to other blocks as well which are having  milk availability so that the farmers &  milk producers can get remunerative price as well as  earn income at their doorsteps without the involvement of middlemen.

          SRINAGAR, AUGUST 24:  State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM) and UMEED today organized a workshop on ‘SHG-Bank Linkage’ at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention centre (SKICC) here.
         Commissioner Secretary Rural Development, Nirmal Sharma inaugurated the workshop while Mission Director SRLM Bakshi Javaid Humayun, Vice Presidents of JK Bank, Additional Mission Director Jammu Kapil Sharma and Additional Mission Director Kashmir Ishfaq Ahmad were also present on the occasion.
          Commissioner Secretary Rural Development while speaking on the occasion presented an overview of activities, approach and achievements of UMEED-MSRLM, particularly in the area of financial inclusion.
          She said the purpose of the workshop is to analyze the progress made on SHG linkage this year and also deliberate on various other issues. She said the workshop will help bankers and the SHG members to directly interact with each other and give feedback on the existing system of finance to the SHGs that will help banks and the department to improve.
          She said the mandate of SRLM is to reach out to 66 percent of rural population and link them to sustainable livelihood opportunity and nurture them till they come out of poverty and enjoy a decent quality of life.
          Speaking on the occasion Mission Director SRLM Bakshi Javaid Humayun said 19405 SHGs and 1922 Village Organizations have been formed so far and all of these groups have been linked with the banks.
          He said the banks have provided loans to the tune of Rs 94.72 crore to 12596 SHGs out of which JK Bank has provided 70 percent and J&K Grameen Bank has provided 19 percent. He said out of 180594 members of the SHGs, 105942 members have opened their individual accounts with different branches of the banks.
          The Mission Director further stated that the department has enabled women SHG members to access to Rs 197.10 crores over a period of 4 years which include revolving fund of Rs 15000 per SHGs, Community Investment Fund of Rs 40000 per SHG and Additional Community investment of Rs 25000 per SHG.
          Vice President JK Bank on the occasion said the SHGs have set an example in the country by having a negligible NPA record. He said the Bank will walk extra mile in eradicating the poverty in rural areas besides empowering the women by way of financial inclusion.

          The bank representatives assured to take the subject of ‘SHG Bank Linkage’ on a high priority. They said SHG credit linkage is a social concern as well as a promising business proposition for bankers and assured every possible help to the SHGs.
