Jammu, Aug 31: BJP J&K
conducted a joint meeting of Weavers & Artisans cell and Cooperative Cell
at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Bhawan, Trikuta Nagar Jammu.
The meeting was chaired by BJP
State General Secretary (Org.) Ashok Kaul. BJP State Incharge All Morcha Munish
Sharma, State Incharge All Cells Varinderjit Singh, Pummy Singh along with all
the members of weavers and Artisans cell as well as Cooperative cell, from
different parts of the Jammu actively participated in the meeting. Main agenda
of the meeting was to assess the progress made by these two cells in expanding
their activities in this region.
Ashok Kaul, while addressing the
meeting, said that the party is aware of the plight of weavers and artisans of
Jammu province who have been earlier ignored on every front. He said that lot
of work needs to be done for raising the stature of Artisans and Weavers at par
with that of other regions. He said that the BJP will take all the essential
steps in this direction. The party will firmly stand behind its commitment to
improve working and living conditions of weavers and artisans, he added.
Various other speakers, in their
addresses, brought to light different issues which according to them needed
attention of the party. Various issues like dearth of raw material, deficiency
of extension service to promote the cause of weavers and Artisans, existence of
awareness of programs, of neglect of issues by the concerned agencies in the
matter of selection of weavers and artisans for taking part in the different
exhibition organized in state and elsewhere, absence of welfare schemes were
discussed in the meeting.
The participants asserted that
their units are on verge of the closer for want of support, which they do not
get from the concerned departments either due to paucity of staff in their
office or due to indifferent attitude of the employees of the department. The
weavers and Artisans of Jammu Province are passing through difficult stage and
they need attention of the authorities. The produce of weavers and Artisan are
representative of way of life and culture of a place. Their produce earns
foreign exchange by exporting the products to other countries. They said that
the cooperative movement is supplementary to the weavers and artisans in its
productive organization. May weavers and artisans have formed cooperative
societies for promoting their produce. This has proved to be advantageous and
beneficial to the members of this cooperative, who are generally these weavers
and artisans. The cooperative movement plays an important role organizing the
weavers and artisans.
