Jammu, Sept 5: Reacting
to National Conference leader
Farooq Abdullah’s statement who on Wednesday said “his party will not
participate in local body elections unless the Centre and the state government
clears its position on Article 35 A and takes effective steps for its
protection in and inside the court.” Former Deputy Chief Minister and MLA
Gandhi Nagar said that it is not good on part of National Conference Leadership
to correlate the issue of article 35 A, which is still Sub-judice, and the
recently announced Local Bodies elections. The elections to these basic units
of local administration are must for the development of the state. Every
regional as well as National in the state should welcome the decision of state
Government and come forward to participate in the electoral process. If these
elections do not take place, then approximately Rs 4,400 crore financial grant
would lapse in our state, he said. He urged all the main political parties of
the state, not to play with the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir
on pretext of Article 35 A. Gupta also criticised the role of Hurriyat Leaders
and cautioned them to refrain from instigating people on the issue.
